Salary Range: $30,609 to $67,019 (JSP 11/01 – JSP 14/10)

Position Overview
The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky is seeking qualified applicants for a half-time Pro Se Law Clerk in Lexington, Kentucky. This position provides the Court with procedural and substantive legal analysis and advice regarding habeas corpus, civil rights, and other matters. The Pro Se Law Clerk conducts legal research, reviews case records/filings, drafts memoranda, orders, and proposed opinions, and interacts with Judges and Court staff. The Pro Se Law Clerk also provides administrative and clerical assistance to the Court as needed and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To qualify for the position, an individual must be a graduate of an ABA-accredited law school (or certified as having completed all law school studies and requirements and merely awaiting conferment of degree) and have excellent academic credentials, as well as superior research and writing skills. The candidate must be highly motivated; demonstrate a high degree of initiative; possess excellent interpersonal, communicative and organizational skills; and be able to function independently as well as in a team environment. The candidate must be proficient with technology and must maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
Conditions of Employment
The position is an excepted appointment subject to background investigation, and all appointments are provisional upon a favorable suitability determination. The position is eligible for federal benefits. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or eligible to work in the United States. Employees of the U.S. District Court are "at-will" employees. All appointments are subject to mandatory electronic funds transfer for payment of net pay.
