Communications Manager General Manager’s Office $65,000 - $75,000

Summary of Position: Under the direction of the Deputy General Manager is responsible for the development and implementation of communication strategies that foster and enhance the community’s engagement with its local government. Assists the town in providing a forum for both groups and individuals to express concerns, provide feedback and extend opinions. In partnership with Town departments, will encourage, facilitate and maximize civic input and participation in municipal government.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must possess strong written and oral communication skills and have the ability to write for multiple audiences. Knowledge of social media and other related platforms. Ability to work, interact and communicate effectively with a broad, diverse range of stakeholders. Ability to work on multiple projects in different stages for different mediums and audiences at once. Ability to understand trends in local government engagement.
Minimum Training and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Government, Political Science, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or related field. Two to three years’ experience working in a communications, design, social media and/or branding related role. Experience in municipal government preferred. Knowledge of municipal civic engagement platforms and strategies is a plus. Suitable experience may be substituted for educational attainment if deemed appropriate by the General Manager or his designee.
Examination will consist of: Parts Weight Passing Score Oral Examination 100% 80%
The examination will consist of an evaluation of training and experience as indicated on the application. Based on these ratings, a maximum of the ten most qualified applicants will be invited to participate in an oral test. All parts of the examination including ratings and tests will be related to the requirements and duties of the position.
