Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant performs advanced and specialized accounting assignments, obtains and analyzes financial information, prepares reports. Use of a variety of computer programs will be required. Duties may require use and security of confidential data.
Other duties include: Compiling and analyzing financial information to prepare entries to accounts; reconciles general ledger accounts; prepares financial reports for staff and other appropriate parties, assists with budget calculations and documentation in coordinating the annual budget process; analyzes expenditures to ensure proper classification; prepares schedules, charts and graphs to facilitate analysis, assists and audits contracts, purchase orders and vouchers for proper classification, authorization and to ensure internal control structure is working. Prepares reimbursement requests for various grants; maintains files for audit or review; analyzes data for tracking purposes. Provides assistance and backup to billing, payroll, and accounts payable functions. Assists with EMS billing and coordinates financial hardship applications. Trains other team members as necessary, assists staff with financial questions and issues. Assists with annual financial audit. Prepares monthly financial statements and special reports. Performs month-end general ledger entries as well as year-end closing activities, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and other necessary tasks. Assists with complying with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements. Determines payments and transfer funds to/from internal and external customers. Monitor and transfer funds for FSA/H.S.A./HRA. Assists in payment of payroll taxes, retirement funding including ICMA-RC and Fire & Police Association of Colorado (FPPA). Liaisons with banks regarding any issues that arise, stop payments, bank errors. Recommends financial actions by analyzing accounting options.
The location of the Senior Accountant Office is the Summit Fire & EMS Administration Headquarters in Frisco, Colorado. Full-Time office attendance during normal business hours is required. Regular attendance at appropriate meetings and functions is also expected.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
• Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
• Minimum of three years’ administrative experience. (3 years governmental accounting preferred)
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, auditing techniques and accounting concepts.
• Interact successfully with all levels of personnel and external contacts and to work in a team environment.
• Demonstrate strong analytical and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to organize and prioritize assignments, to take initiative, to maintain confidentiality, to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Makes logical decisions using sound, professional judgment.
• Experience in computer word processing, spreadsheet and database.
Additional Requirements:
• Valid CO driver’s license or ability to obtain a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days.
• Successful completion of background evaluation to include criminal and credit screenings, previous employer reference checks, and pre-employment drug screening.
• Required to achieve CPR certification, and Incident Command System certifications after hire.
