Laboratory Analyst
Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA), a progressive water utility providing water, wastewater and reclaimed water services to the Towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro and to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, seeks qualified candidates for a Laboratory Analyst at the Water Treatment Plant located on Jones Ferry Road (Carrboro) which is a recipient of the partnership for Excellence in Water Treatment Award.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Interpersonal skills are a must as is the ability and willingness to assist the team to fulfill the mission and goals of the organization while ensuring safe work practices are followed.
This position helps to ensure the drinking water supplied to the community is safe and meets all regulatory requirements and regulations. This is accomplished by collecting samples throughout the treatment process and distribution system to conduct compliance and non-compliance testing while maintaining an effective quality control and assurance program following established standard operating procedures. Calibrates and maintains analytical equipment and performs various quality control procedures to ensure reliability, precision, and accuracy of results. Evaluating results requires sound analytical judgement. Interacts with customers and general public to respond to inquiries concerning water quality.
Candidates should have one to three years’ laboratory experience with an Associate’s degree or equivalent in a related field of study. Position requires a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina. Candidates with experience using or familiar with the operation of a gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer (GC-MS) preferred.
Successful candidate must meet and maintain requirements for a safety sensitive position (bi-annual physicals, etc.) and must frequently exert 10-25 pounds and occasionally 20-50 pounds.

Salary range: $44,189 - $68,051
