ABOUT THE POSITION

This position is responsible for the leadership of the Student Support Services (SSS) program, a TRIO program funded through the US Department of Education. This position directs the day-to-day operations and budget of the TRIO program and is responsible for compliance with Federal and State regulations. 

The Director leads the administration of the Student Support Services program ensuring compliance with all federal funding rules, college policies, and Minnesota State policies and procedures. The Director recruits and supervises professional staff and provides leadership for student programming. The Director is responsible for the budget design, expenditure of program funds, and serving as liaison with the U.S. Department of Education on behalf of Normandale Community College. The Director also serves as TRIO SSS Coach for a small group of assigned students, helping to ensure their academic progress and skill development. The Director facilitates and oversees more than a dozen events and programs on campus, including occasional field trips for SSS participants. The Director may co-teach a one-credit course, NCC 1000, Paths to College Success, as needed.

The program serves approximately 150 participant students at Normandale Community College. Eligible students include low-income students, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities. The program develops skills and increases motivation among participants to maintain good academic standing, persist, and complete post-secondary education. All coordination, leadership and direction of each aspect of the program are the responsibility of the Director of TRIO SSS.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

The following qualifications are required to move forward your candidacy; as such, ensure your application contains descriptions of your work experience sufficient to demonstrate proficiency in each of the following:

  • Master's degree in Education, Student Affairs, Psychology, Social Work, Vocational Rehabilitation, or related field
  • 3 years of professional experience with TRIO or a similar youth development program
  • 3 years of work experience in higher education
  • An additional 2 years of professional TRIO experience may substitute for a Master’s degree for individuals with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and who meet all other requirements

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s) that will be interviewed for

  • The ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals in a diverse higher education community
  • Exceptional communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with MS Office products and specialized databases
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and report data, while maintaining confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience leading a team or supervising others
  • 2 years of experience managing a budget
  • Record of success in working with diverse student populations
  • Experience working in a liaison role with state or federal programs
  • Experience working in a collective bargaining environment
  • Experience speaking in front of groups

Salary Range: Annually from $57,002 to $82,560 *Salary placement is dependent on education and experience
