Scientist II Research and Development
Job Function/Requirements:
- Assist and lead in the coordination and execution of departmental projects (assigned and/or team projects)
- Provide technical support in the development of vaccines (bacterial and viral) and mammalian cell culture; including but not limited to antigen discovery, formulation, cell culture, process development, assay development and efficacy studies.
- The incumbent will interact with Department Heads, research team members, and other departments, for the purpose of determining needs, reporting results, providing technical support and for product development/improvement.
Essential Job Duties:
- Conduct assigned projects, experiments or departmental activities to meet the project goals and timelines.
- Maintain and transfect mammalian or insect cells. Grow and harvest virus and perform assays like ELISA, TCID50, IFA and western blot.
- Independently lead assigned projects, set project goals and develop project timelines.
- Perform basic molecular biology and microbiology experiments.
- Collect, maintain and organize data in the form of a laboratory handbook, bench record, animal record, electronic project database, and/or production record.
- Able to work on bacteria and formulate vaccines.
- Communicate data/results to Department Head or to Scientist III or Senior Scientist in the form of written or oral reports.
- Analyze data/results and provide suggestions for next steps.
- Prepare and present data for collaborative review.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.
Nature and Scope:
- The incumbent reports directly to the Department Head or to a Scientist III or Senior Scientist.
- The incumbent will conduct assigned projects in order to achieve project goals.
- Maintain laboratory and equipment in order to meet project and regulatory requirements.
- Interact with lab personnel, as well as other departments within the company.
- The incumbent has technical responsibility to project teams and project goals.
- Must be able conduct project assignments with limited supervision and be able to lead own projects.
- Accountable for the accurate and honest documentation and reporting of research data and results.
- Work in a safe and productive manner with the guidelines established by policy and delegated authority.
- Accountable for complying with the Boehringer-Ingelheim/Newport Business Code of Ethics to the highest standards.
- Accountable for complying with the Company Handbook and all policies set by the Company.
