Job Summary:
The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor assists individuals with disabilities to make informed choices that will maximize their employment through coordinated service delivery. This position provides comprehensive vocational rehabilitation services which result in employment and enhanced independent living for persons with disabilities while complying with federal, state, and tribal policy and procedures.
In partnership with persons with disabilities, this positon will develop employment focused goal orientated plans, and coordinate the related services necessary for a person to become successfully employed. Core vocational case management services may include guidance and counseling, training, physical/mental restoration, and job placement services. The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor delivers quality workforce services to individuals with disabilities who want to work and employers who seek to hire them.
Duties:
1. Interview applicants, or advocates, and contacting other sources such as schools, hospitals, and employers to produce social, personal adjustment, and educational information.
2. Explain the rights, responsibilities, and sequences of services to clients.
3. Analyzes diagnostic information and functional limitations of physical, mental, and emotional disabilities in relationship to an applicant’s personal and vocational adjustment using federal and state regulations to determine the eligibility of applicants, informs ineligible applicants of denied services and appeal rights.
4. Determine if limitations caused by a physical, mental or emotional disability create a substantial vocational handicap by analyzing functional limitations, assessing diagnostic information, and utilizing a variety of source materials.
5. Develop individual written rehabilitation program(s) with a client by identifying objectives, services needed to support the objectives, and methods to review progress in the program, and authorizing services, equipment, or supplies as necessary.
6. Counsels clients to increase their understanding of themselves and vocational options to effect positive vocational adjustment.
7. Promotes agency services and resources by providing information to various community resources through personal contacts, written communication, radio spots, speeches, news articles, and workshops.
8. Other duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
• Must be over 21 years of age.
• Must possess a high school diploma or GED; an Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Must demonstrate friendly, service oriented and responsible attitude.
• Must have experience with the principles and practices of vocational services delivery to individuals with disabilities.
• Must have experience interviewing, evaluating, and counseling individuals with disabilities.
• Must have experience with caseload management and case documentation.
• Must have working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act compliance requirements.
• Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions of supervisor.
• Must have ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
• Thorough knowledge of computer programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet programs and applications.
• Must maintain confidentiality.
• Must be dependable.
• Must possess a valid driver license.
• Must be insurable through the tribal insurance.
• Must pass a pre-employment background investigation.
• Must be dependable and pass a pre-employment drug test.
• Must be Covid 19 vaccinated!
