SALARY

$26.089 per hour
This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime.
Upon graduation from the academy, eligible for state training incentive [completion of 300 training hours], uniform allowance, education and certification incentives and more.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this classification is to perform firefighting, rescue and emergency medical services of considerable difficulty in protecting life and property as a firefighter and first responder assigned to a fire (Company) or an Emergency Care Unit (Ambulance), certified as an Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic. In addition to performing technical rescue functions, duties include alleviating incidences involving the release of hazardous materials; maintenance of fire station and fire apparatus, tools, and equipment; serving the community and in all manner of tasks ordered by the Fire Chief or his/her designee.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
  2. Between the ages of 19-34 years at application deadline date
  3. High School Diploma or Equivalent Certification
  4. Possession of valid driver's license
  5. A person of sobriety and integrity, and have been an orderly, law-abiding citizen
  6. Never have been convicted of a felony or crime involving moral turpitude
  7. Able to read, write and understand the English language and follow instructions.
  8. Ability to work on a 24 hours on and 48 hours off rotation or other flexible schedule

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicants must be able to perform all the essential job duties, including but not limited to having the physical strength and ability to allow considerable lifting, carrying, climbing and prolonged manual labor under adverse conditions.
  • Based on preliminary testing in Phase I (written, CPAT, oral interview), a certain number of individuals will receive conditional job offers and proceed to Phase II of the recruitment process. Phase II requires candidates to a submit to a polygraph and background investigation, which may result in candidates being eliminated from the process due to eligibility requirements.  Candidates that pass the polygraph and background investigation will complete further pre-employment screenings to include psychological suitability screening examination, a medical examination, and drug screening prior to the final job offer.
  • Individuals must obtain certification as an Emergency Medical Technician during the academy and maintain certification throughout employment. A Paramedic certification during the academy and employment may also be required.
  • Must be able to adhere to Division of Fire/EMS personnel uniform and personal grooming requirements.
  • This position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement. Union dues or Fair Share amounts will be collected.
