Attorney Senior (Law)

The purpose of this classification is to provide legal counsel and advice to the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG), its departments, divisions, boards, officials, and employees, and to represent the organization in litigation, negotiations and other matters where legal counsel is required.

• Juris Doctorate Degree; and, a minimum of four (4) years of related legal experience; or, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Must be a member of the Kentucky Bar
• May be required to possess a valid driver's license

• Provides representation and counsel to specified departments or divisions
• Drafts legal documents, resolutions, motions, ordinances, contracts, pleadings, briefs and opinions; negotiates revisions
• Handles miscellaneous matters such as arbitration, legal interpretation, and legislation drafts
• Performs related work as assigned
• Researches and analyzes complex legal issues and prepares written analysis and evaluations
• Represents and prepares clients for mediations, informal settlement negotiations and court
• Represents the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government in state and federal courts
• Provides legal counsel to Boards and Commissions
• Supervises paralegals in preparation of pleadings and review of work
