SALARY
The minimum salary is $90,182.56 annually.
This position is not eligible for overtime (exempt); however, the city has a compensatory time leave program for employees that grants leave time for hours worked in excess of forty hours.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this classification is to provide legal counsel and advice to the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG), its departments, divisions, boards, officials, and employees, and to represent the organization in litigation, negotiations and other matters where legal counsel is required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Juris Doctorate Degree; and, a minimum of four (4) years of related legal experience; or, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Must be a member of the Kentucky Bar
- May be required to possess a valid driver's license
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides representation and counsel to specified departments or divisions
- Drafts legal documents, resolutions, motions, ordinances, contracts, pleadings, briefs and opinions; negotiates revisions
- Handles miscellaneous matters such as arbitration, legal interpretation, and legislation drafts
- Performs related work as assigned
- Researches and analyzes complex legal issues and prepares written analysis and evaluations
- Represents and prepares clients for mediations, informal settlement negotiations and court
- Represents the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government in state and federal courts
- Provides legal counsel to Boards and Commissions
- Supervises paralegals in preparation of pleadings and review of work
