Producer, On Air Image and Promotion
KET is Kentucky’s only statewide media organization, serving more than one million people
each week with programs and services that educate, inform, and inspire. In addition to
broadcasting PBS programming, KET produces a variety of award-winning local productions.
KET also creates and provides highly regarded instructional resources, reaching students
and educators throughout Kentucky and the nation. KET has the following full-time position
opening in Lexington, Kentucky.
JOB TITLE: Producer, On Air Image and Promotion
REPORTS TO: Manager, On Air Image and Promotion
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Duties:
Produces, writes, shoots and edits high-impact, innovative, and creative on-air and digital
promotion. Oversees all visual, sound and content elements of the production. Performs pre-
production, production, and post production of on-air Image elements, funding spots, and other
interstitial material.
Produces original spots to promote KET programs and services and utilizes promo material
from PBS and other sources; makes decisions on customization and utilization, based on
appropriateness for KET. Implements on-air marketing priorities.
Prepares interstitial air time and date parameters and dubbing requirements and disseminates
to appropriate staff. Communicates with the traffic department.
Paying great attention to detail, ensures technical quality control of interstitial elements,
accuracy of information (times, dates, titles, etc.), and adherence to style formats. Makes
corrections as needed.
Researches and develops promotion ideas; maintains standards of quality and consistency;
works in a timely and efficient manner adhering to all deadlines.
Performs production tasks, including: research, timing segments, logging footage, obtaining
releases, keeping continuity notes, booking guests and travel, following scripts, proofreading
gfx, and operating production equipment such as lights and teleprompter. Prepares and
maintains records necessary for the production personnel and facilities requests for broadcast,
including budget materials, rights and talent contracts, equipment maintenance records,
copyright information, and operational records and reports. Casts talent and negotiates fees.
Supervises the director, associate producers and interns in their activities. Directs, lights,
operates cameras, switchers, editors, and other production equipment as needed.
Attends regular meetings with Marketing Division and Image/Traffic staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in related field plus minimum two (2) years of television production
experience required. Practical experience in television may substitute for education on a year-
for-year basis.
Proven experience and achievement in producing, lighting, shooting, writing, and editing
studio-based and EFP commercial/spot productions for local or national broadcast required.
Non-linear editing experience required.
Strong computer, writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills required. Adobe After Effects and
Photoshop experience preferred.
Ability to make significant commitment of time and energy.
Must be able to carry production equipment (up to 40lbs).
Must maintain a professional demeanor and appearance at all times.
A valid driver’s license is required.
SALARY:
Dependent on qualifications and experience.
