Position Title: Graphic Designer               

Employment Type: Regular, Full Time

Reports To: Director of Policy, Research and Communications    

Primary Workstation: 400 Englewood Drive, Frankfort, KY

Job Summary: This position will assist in the development and implementation of organizational design standards and brand expectations and work on a wide range of projects and media, using standard and accepted software, to visualize and develop innovative print and digital graphic designs that meet organizational goals.

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in the development and implementation of organizational design standards and brand expectations
  • Work on a wide range of projects and media, using standard and accepted software to visualize and develop innovative graphic designs that meet organizational goals, including original designs and the development of templates
  • Obtain input from management, ensuring designs meet organizational standards and brand expectations, express ideas accurately, and represent the company or client appropriately
  • Work independently and cooperatively on multiple projects with advocacy and communications team, meeting deadlines and scheduling project implementation based on workload, which may include five or more simultaneous projects
  • Examine existing processes, identifying flaws and creating solutions to improve design capabilities
  • Perform photography/videography as needed and develop in-house portfolio of images and video
  • Update and maintain internal databases of designs, photography, and video
  • Collaborate, brainstorm, and strategize with multiple teams for a wide range of materials that may include web pages, presentations, printed materials, signage, internal communication, newsletters, marketing materials, briefs, brochures and event materials
  • Translate strategic direction into high-quality design within an established brand identity
  • Develop concepts and execute original content determining ideal usage of color, text, font style, imagery, and layout
  • Manage the design and uploading process of all project material, understanding best practices for using a content management system
  • Ensure copyright permissions for photos, artwork, graphics, etc. have been properly secured and documented
  • Ensure readability and functionality of produced materials
  • Create infographics, charts, maps & tables
  • Create printing specs for projects, manage relationships with printers and ensure quality of final print projects
  • Monitor social media and develop/post content

Skills/Qualifications: 

  • Exceptional creativity and innovative design skills
  • 3+ years of experience in graphic design, with a strong portfolio of work
  • Proficiency using design software, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Organizational and time-management skills for meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage both short and long-term projects
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Desire to continue to grow skill set with ongoing education and training
  • Photography experience and proficiency with photo editing software
  • Videography experience and proficiency with video editing software
  • Experience in web marketing/web design with a strong knowledge of HTML, web design and development principles and processes is preferred
  • Knowledge of local and state government, including the legislative process, is preferred

Education, Experience and Licensing Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, art, or similar discipline or equivalent experience
