Library Manager
Kansas geological society Library Manager position description. The Kansas Geological Society and Library, along with the Kansas Geological Foundation, are seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Library Manager. The Kansas Geological Society and Library, founded in 1923, is a professional society for Petroleum Geologists, which also maintains a well data library covering the entire state of Kansas. The Kansas Geological Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not for profit educational and scientific corporation founded in 1989.
Job Description:
The Library Manager position is full time. The Library manager will be responsible for day to day management of the Library, which also includes an online database, the Walters Digital Library. The Library staff fulfills orders for data copies, and helps to maintain and run both the physical and online libraries. Use of both libraries is limited to subscribing members, and the Library Manager is responsible for subscribing new members. The Library staff consists of four full-time employees at present, and the Kansas Geological Foundation employees three to four part-time employees.
The Library manager will be responsible for the hiring, management and supervision of all staff (Kansas Geological Society staff, the Kansas Geological Foundation staff and the Walters Digital Library staff). The Library Manager is under the direct management of the Kansas Geological Society Board of Directors. The Library Manager will provide accurate accounting and analytics of the Libraries finances, and will work along with the Board of Directors to both insure the viability of the organization and plan for its future. The Library Manager position requires a strong background and understanding of bookkeeping and/or accounting, and will be responsible for overseeing all accounting of the above three entities. The manager will oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and review all insurance policies. The manager will be responsible for creating, analyzing and presenting a budget to the Board of Directors, and meet with the Board of Directors monthly. Both the Kansas Geological Society and the Kansas Geological Foundation have numerous social, educational, sporting and professional meetings during the year.
The Library Manager shall assist, with the Library staff, the administration and implementation of these meetings. There are Professional Trade Shows (AAPG and KIOGA) that occur here in Wichita and surrounding States that occasionally the Walters Digital Library sets up a booth. It is possible that two weekends out of the year may be required, with travel expenses paid for. The Kansas Geological Foundation has an ongoing program of receiving donations of well data and providing this data to the Kansas Geological Society Library. The Library Manager will assist with this integration of new data, as well as provide administrative support for the Kansas Geological Foundation. The Library Manager shall market memberships and subscriptions to the Kansas Geological Society and Library, The Walters Digital Library and the Kansas Geological Foundation.
The Library Manager will have access to analytics of where library subscribers are buying data as well as where they are looking at data online. Because of the competitive nature of the Oil and Gas Industry, the successful candidate for this position will be required to enter in to a non-disclosure agreement.
