Social Worker
Director of Jewish Family Services Agency and Position Description Jewish Federation of the Bluegrass About Jewish Family Services Jewish Family Services (JFS) is part of the Jewish Federation of the Bluegrass. The JFS agency addresses issues and concerns which affect the Jewish community of the Bluegrass region. JFS offers direct and indirect support services to the Jewish community. The agency provides services in a manner sensitive to Jewish culture, values and ideals. The principal of confidentiality is intrinsic in all agency functions.
All of these things are done with the goal in mind of supporting growing strong families and a strong community. Direct services provided include crisis intervention, assessment and referrals to community resources, some elder care case management, processing requests for financial assistance, processing campership/scholarship applications, and planning Family Life Education programs. Indirect services provided include leadership and management of volunteers and conducting periodic informal needs assessments of the community as a basis for future program development. The JFS director regularly networks with other agencies and residential facilities. The JFS director or a designated representative also serves as a voting member on the local Emergency Food and Shelter Board as required by this Federal program. Currently, this includes Fayette, Jessamine, Bourbon, Madison and Montgomery Counties.
Qualifications for the JFS Director position Graduate of an accredited social work program with either a B.S.W or M.S.W degree in Social Work. Two years post graduate experience in social work is desirable. State certification in social work is desirable. Current driver's license and ability to drive with unlimited access to reliable automobile with appropriate insurance is also desirable.
Job Responsibilities Direct Services
- Provide appropriate crisis intervention.
- Provide case management/referrals.
- Provide supportive counseling.
- Process emergency financial assistance requests.
- Advocate for members of the Jewish community.
- Process campership/scholarship applications.
Programming
- Work with the Jewish Family Services Committee to generate Jewish Family Life - Education programs to meet the needs the Committee deems necessary.
- Generate programs that target improving and maintaining quality of life among our senior population.
- Facilitate regular visits to the Stewart Home School in Frankfort, KY with volunteers (mainly for holiday celebrations).
- Increase the visibility of the Jewish Family Services agency
- Participate and represent JFS with the Bluegrass Aging Consortium at their monthly meeting at the Bluegrass Area Agency on Aging and Independent Living.
- Participate with the local Emergency Food and Shelter Program board, or send a representative.
- Partner with Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky at least once yearly to help spread awareness. This can be done either through a program or other more passive approaches.
- Write an article for the Shalom Magazine, place ads and announcements in Jewish community publications, or send letters or emails to targeted mailings as appropriate. Network
- Participate with above mentioned groups to build referral base and increase knowledge of community resources.
- Attend free Continuing Education courses when able. Ongoing Agency Maintenance and Awareness - Establish and execute a plan for ongoing quality assurance and evaluation of agency.
- Monitor agency activities and services on a continuing basis.
- Track hours regularly and report monthly to the JFS Committee and Federation Board of Directors.
