Research Associate
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is seeking full-time, salaried Research Associates to join our research team in Arlington, Virginia and Ruckersville, Virginia. We are at the forefront of efforts to find effective means of decreasing the incidence and severity of motor vehicle crashes. Our multidisciplinary research team of psychologists, engineers, and statisticians investigates the roles that driver behavior, technology, and roadway design play in crashes. The Research Associate supports all aspects of research conducted by more experienced research staff, from collecting data to preparing publications. With experience, the person in this role will also be able to conduct research projects independently.
Compensation consists of a competitive salary and a 403(b) retirement plan with a nonelective annual contribution equal to 10% of your salary. Duties
• Collect field data for observational, experimental, and on-road studies
• Prepare data for analysis, which includes coding video, open-ended survey responses, and crash descriptions
• Assist other researchers in producing reports for publication in peer-reviewed journals
• Once experienced in the role, independently conduct research and manage research projects performed by outside contractors
• Perform analysis of data using SAS
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
• 2+ years of experience with data collection
• Experience with statistical tools (SAS preferred)
• Strong organizational and communications skills
• Capable of learning new skills quickly
• Interest in solving real-world problems
