About the Department:

The Global Education Office (GEO) provides international study/internship and research opportunities for George Mason University students, faculty, staff, and the general public. GEO functions as the hub for international educational activities at George Mason University.

 

About the Position:

The Customized Programs Manager provides oversight of Program Administrators responsible for the customized program portfolio in GEO. Oversight includes managing Program Administrators in the administration of customized programs, setting administrative calendar, and ensuring staff meet programmatic deadlines. The administration of programs includes managing student applications to programs, coordination with student registration, and communication with students, faculty, departments, and administrative units on campus, as well as liaising with educational institutions abroad, travel vendors, and international organizations, and maintaining contact with appropriate administrative units on campus and abroad, in addition to establishing new ones as necessary.

 

Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for oversight of programs in the customized programs portfolio in GEO. This includes, but is not limited to, managing Program Administrators in the administration of customized programs, setting the administrative calendar for customized programs, and ensuring staff meet programmatic deadlines. The Customized Programs Manager is also responsible for processing student applications and registration, coordinating with faculty directors and educational institutions abroad to evaluate student academic qualifications and suitability for programs, managing communication with students and departments across campus on application processes and program offerings, and advising students. Further, this position is responsible for assisting faculty in program design, maintaining positive relationships, and managing communication with current and future partners, faculty leading programs, supporting departments, educational institutions abroad, travel vendors, and appropriate administrative units on and off campus. The collection of budget information for programs and preparing the budget first draft is also the responsibility of the Customized Programs Manager, as well as utilizing best practices for successful program evaluation and development.

 

Required Qualifications:

Knowledge of international study abroad program administration, administrative experience in an institute of higher education, knowledge of different educational systems throughout the world, student advisement, experiential education, field studies, international experience, marketing, cross cultural skills, ability to work with people of different cultures, and computer skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

BA or MA in International Studies, Education, Foreign Language or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated administrative experience (typically 4+ years). Background in study abroad, higher education administration, experiential education or field studies.
