Staff Accountant
FMA is seeking a full-time Staff Accountant who will support the accounting & finance functions of the organization.
Duties include:
- Prepare month-end journal entries.
- Maintain supporting files in Excel for balance sheet accounts & reconcile activity as appropriate.
- Maintain records for other balance sheet accounts.
- Assist in preparation of financial reports & maintenance of chart of accounts.
- Initiate monthly & quarterly invoices.
- Perform certain A/R activities & act as back-up for remaining activities.
- Ensure timely filing of state sales & use tax returns for U.S. activities. Ensure timely filing of state sales, use, or CAT taxes & any foreign VAT taxes.
- Assist with preparation & filing of annual 1099s.
- Enter G/L account set-ups, taxability, & revenue recognition on new products.
- Reconcile investment accounts.
- Assist Finance Director in the preparation of the budget.
- Provide data to external auditors & interact with the audit team.
- Recommend & implement improvements in accounting procedures & internal controls.
Education/Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from four-year college or university.
- Three to five years of directly related work experience.
- Understanding of currency conversion from U.S. dollars to Canadian dollars.
- Ability to understand intercompany transactions “Due to”/“Due from”.
- Previous nonprofit/charitable foundation work experience preferred.
- Sage 100 experience preferred.
- CPA designation preferred.
