SUPERVISOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION
Background
The Corning-Painted Post Area School District, a system of approximately 4,700 pupils, is located in the southern tier of New York State. The area that it serves is comprised of almost 35,000 people. The leading industries in the area are Corning Incorporated, Siemens Energy, and tourism. The District has earned the reputation of providing an excellent educational opportunity for its students. Six elementary schools, one middle school and one senior high school make up the district. Historically, the community has always given the school system excellent support.
Position Description
As a member of the Pupil Personnel Services administrative team, the successful candidate will assist in the supervision and coordination of the full continuum of services provided to students with special needs. In collaboration with regional, district, and building administration, the candidate will share in the supervision of special education teachers, related service providers, health office staff, school counselors, school social workers, school psychologists, CSE chairpersons and helping teachers.
At the end of a successful four-year period the individual is eligible for tenure.
Position Qualifications
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
1) Successful full-time teaching experience of at least five years
2) Possess New York State School District Leader (SDL) certification
3) Interacts and communicates effectively with students, parents, staff, and other members of the school community
4) Working understanding of New York State and Federal laws related to students with disabilities and their families
5) Facilitates team meetings for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and programs.
6) Collaborates with district personnel to achieve district goals and objectives
