POSITION OBJECTIVE
As part of the Acquisitions and Metadata Services team the Kelvin Smith Library of Case Western Reserve University, the Electronic Resources Librarian is responsible for the content management, licensing, and discovery of all the library’s electronic serials and databases. The Electronic Resources Librarian manages access to the library’s electronic resources using the electronic resources management system, discovery service, ILS, link resolver, authentication service, and databases A-Z list, and works with vendors to provide consistent, user-friendly access. The position will also collaborate with other teams at Kelvin Smith Library, particularly the Planning, Budgets, and Assessment and Research Services teams, to coordinate the selection, acquisition, and evaluation of electronic resources.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide expertise in e-resources and apply best practices; apply advanced techniques, technologies, and good judgment in the field; collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including library vendors. Utilize a significant level of expertise within library science where contributions are recognized at the library and university; maintain knowledge about library emerging issues and trends and the role of the library; understand and articulate organizational positioning and strategic alignment. (25%)
- Facilitate selection, acquisition, licensing, and authentication of e-resources. Process renewals of print and electronic serials with EBSCO and other vendors. (12%)
- Work with Acquisitions and Metadata Services team colleagues to process and track payments for e-resources in ILS/ERM (Sierra). (7%)
- Manage access to all e-resources using the library’s discovery service (EBSCO EDS), electronic resource management system (Sierra), link resolver (EBSCO Full Text Finder), authentication service (OpenAthens), and databases A-Z list (Springshare). (24%)
- Troubleshoot access issues. (7%)
- Analyze and evaluate use of e-resources and develop usage reports. (10%)
- Contribute to the library, the institution, and the profession through scholarship, creative expression, and service at the state, regional, or national. Engage in professional development and participate on library, consortium, and university committees, teams, task forces, and special projects as deemed necessary or assigned. (8%)
- Contribute to and maintain a work culture of inclusion, diversity, equity and belonging. (6%)
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform other duties as assigned. (1%)
CONTACTS
Department: Regular contact with the Acquisitions and Metadata Services Team Leader to ensure excellent service. Moderate contact with staff on all levels of the organization to support the provision of library services. Occasional contact with managers and staff of other units in the library as required by projects.
University: Occasional contact with faculty and students. Consult occasionally with other campus librarians to coordinate information management decisions for the provision of library services. Consult with staff throughout the university to develop and implement programs for the delivery of services to students and faculty.
External: Participate in local, regional, and national organizations to maintain a network of informational professionals. Occasional collaboration with colleagues in OhioLINK and other academic libraries. Frequent contact with vendors to support the work of team.
Students: Occasional communication with students to provide assistance and information resources to support their education and research needs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may supervise non-exempt staff, student employees, and temporary full- or part-time workers.
QUALIFICATIONS
The initial rank of the Electronic Resources Librarian, Acquisition & Metadata Services, will be based upon the qualifications of the individual about that person’s professional knowledge, abilities and skills; contributions to the profession through service and scholarly endeavors; and professional qualities consistent with university and library values.
Experience: 1 to 3 years of experience.
Education: Master's degree in Library Science or relevant area.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Ability to make decisions in area of expertise; can collaborate and partner effectively; moderately expert e-resources and able to apply best practices; can use advanced techniques and technology to innovate; ability to perform or administer slightly complex or specialized duties; communicate effectively.
- Evidence of professional contribution publishing, creative contributions, presentations and/or professional service at the state, regional, or national level); keeps abreast of the role and application of trends for libraries in higher education.
- Experience working with an integrated library system, knowledge base, or other electronic resource management system.
- Familiarity with best practices for library acquisitions, licensing, and managing electronic resources.
- Demonstrate self-motivation and the ability to work creatively, independently, and collaboratively.
- Demonstrate excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, computer/technological skills, and project management skills.
- Ability to manage a variety of tasks and multiple priorities.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the mission, vision, goals and services of the library, and understand how to incorporate those within her/his own work.
- Ability to meet consistent attendance.
