Position Title: Director of Facilities and Security Department: Physical Plant Position Summary: Directs the operation and maintenance (current, preventative, and deferred) of all seminary facilities including buildings, grounds, properties, delivery systems and services in a healthy, safe and secure manner that is consistent with academic and student program needs, seminary policies, and all applicable regulatory agency codes and requirements. Supervises, in collaboration with the Vice President of Finance & Administration (VPFA), the design and construction of all building projects, renovations, or other special projects as assigned. Develops, promotes, and oversees all aspects of the Seminary's campus safety and security programs. Essential Functions: 1. Provides the overall strategic direction and general leadership of the Physical Plant department, including certain direct supervisory responsibilities. Provides education, training and development of the department's staff and ensures the Seminary's compliance with all regulatory matters. 2. Provides advice and services related to physical plant issues for Seminary locations outside of Wilmore, Kentucky (e.g. Orlando, Memphis, Tulsa, and Franklin). 3. Recruits, coordinates, and approves all sub-contractors, including architects and engineers who perform work on any existing seminary facilities as well as all new construction. 4. Responds to calls at all hours as needed. Oversees the removal of snow, de-icing, and cleaning of parking lots, walkways, steps, etc. for the safety and protection of those who use the Seminary's facilities. 5. Develops, manages and evaluates all campus safety and security programs and practices for all Seminary locations and ensures the Seminary's compliance with all applicable local, state and federal regulations and requirements related to security and safety. 6. Prepares and manages all related departmental budgets. 7. Ensures the department's annual assessment is completed in a timely and acceptable fashion. 8. Performs annual assessment of internal client satisfaction and regularly develops continuous improvement plans. 9. Completes annual performance evaluations of all direct reports. 10. Builds and maintains positive working relationships with all areas of the Seminary. 11. Participates in the approval process of new buildings, facilities and renovations. 12. Manages all new construction and renovation projects in collaboration with the VPFA. 13. Develops annual and long-range plans that help identify future facility needs, including both deferred and preventative maintenance plans. 14. Participates in the development of seminary policies, procedures and plans that impact seminary facilities, safety and security. 15. Consults with any constituents related to the Seminary's facilities as assigned and needed. Other Responsibilities: 1. Performs all other work-related duties as may be assigned by the VPFA. Job Requirements: 1. Demonstrated competence in administration, management and supervision, preferably in a physical plant/maintenance context. 2. Broad understanding of construction, maintenance and custodial best practices. Direct experience in one or more areas strongly preferred. 3. Experience in administering safety and security plans and programs for organizations is preferred; any type of law enforcement background would be highly beneficial. 4. Experience in budgetary and long-range planning processes. 5. Ability to plan and communicate effectively with multiple constituencies and work well within a collaborative environment. 6. Able to actively participate in departmental work if the situation requires it. Experience, Education and Skills Required: 1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or Business Management preferred, and at least 10-15 years of related administrative or management experience, including full supervisory responsibility; OR, 2. An equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education. 3. Preference may be given to a candidate who holds at least one professional license: Master HVAC, Master Electrician, or Master Plumber. Candidate needs to be professionally conversant in all of these areas. 4. Preference may be given to a candidate with past law enforcement or direct safety supervision experience.
