POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing a quality program of educational services for Aspire High School Equivalency (HSE) students and/or Aspire English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students.
Responsibilities include developing and implementing a comprehensive instructional program for Aspire students (HSE/ESOL) in the most effective and efficient manner. Competencies in teaching basic computer skills and Microsoft Office Specialist areas are required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Prepare lesson plans and instruct students following the program/course goals and objectives.
• Instruct students in the use of technology that is supportive of the program/course goals and objectives.
• Monitor, collect, and evaluate student performance and progress toward program/course goals and objectives.
• Assume responsibility for student placement/retention if part of the program/course goals and objectives.
• Assist in curriculum planning and development and the selection and utilization of instructional materials.
• Collaborate with department staff, business/industry, and community/agencies.
• Participate in program of in-service education and staff training.
• Employ appropriate procedures in establishing a proper classroom environment.
• Assist department staff in developing a team approach for providing services.
• Increase awareness of other available adult and community education programs.
• Serve as a site liaison with community facilities and civic organizations.
• Assist with program promotion, including social media content contributions, student recruitment, and orientations.
• Monitor classroom compliance with Federal and State program regulations.
• Monitor recordkeeping and report Aspire student attendance.
• Coordinate classroom data input into LACES and provide Aspire reports.
• Assist coordinator with all classroom placements, transfers, scheduling, and orientations.
• Provide classroom or individual instruction based on student needs (diagnostic testing and learning screenings) and student goals.
• Monitor and report student performance via LACES.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Degree in Education or a related field.
• Experience teaching adults ABE, ASE, or in an Aspire (HSE/ESOL) program.
• Experience in teaching basic computer skills and Microsoft Office Specialist content.
• Ability to obtain an Ohio Department of Education - Adult Education Permit.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience working with diverse populations in a variety of settings.
• Available to work during times when adults need services including evenings, weekends, and summers.
• Degree with a major in a subject area such as English, mathematics, history, computer science, foreign language, or business.
• Experience teaching adults in a school environment or five years of successful experience as a 7-12 instructor in the areas of math, language arts, social studies, or science.
• ESOL/TESOL coursework and experience teaching adults ESOL in a school environment (ESOL instruction) or five years of successful experience as an adult ESOL teacher.
• Experience in working with school staff and agency personnel to meet the needs of adults and their families.
• Expert communication and writing skills.
