JOB SUMMARY

The Pharmacy Technician will work under the supervision of the licensed pharmacist. The position will assist the pharmacist in the daily operational tasks of the pharmacy. The position will be directly involved in receiving and dispensing prescriptions and client/patient contact.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Prepare prescriptions including selecting the appropriate drug, brand, form, strength, and quantity.
  • Accurately count the number of pills, capsules or tablets and package the required number into appropriate containers with corresponding labels with instructions on use and the expiry date.
  • Receive prescription and refill requests prescribed by CAHN providers for CAHN patients and verify if all the necessary information is available and correct on the electronic or written prescription and enter these details into the pharmacy database.
  • Confirm if the prescribed medications are approved for the specific indications, and patient preference details, such as the requirement of safety caps.
  • Process prescription claims through patient prescription insurance and resolve third-party issues.
  • Answer prescription related questions as appropriate.
  • Answer the pharmacy phone calls and perform patient outreach for refill reminders.
  • Work with pharmacist to manage pharmacy inventory.
  • Ensure the proper storage of all medication and maintain the appropriate storage conditions.
  • Perform administrative tasks as assigned to support the overall function of the pharmacy.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must have at least three (3) years of pharmacy experience
  • Possess a current license as a Pharmacy Technician by VA State Board of Pharmacy
