Summary:

Join our team as an Assistant Building Engineer! This union Local 1 position involves maintaining the physical integrity of our retail properties, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for tenants, visitors, and staff.

• Assist the Building Engineer in maintaining building systems to ensure tenant comfort and security.
• Manage and respond to tenant service requests within 24 hours when possible.
• Perform preventive maintenance and ensure safety across the property, addressing any unsafe conditions immediately.
• Conduct general repairs and maintenance tasks, including electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work.
• Stand in for the Building Engineer as needed and participate in emergency on-call rotation.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial or retail property maintenance.
• Ability to work independently and travel between multiple locations within Chicago.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
• Must own a smartphone for work communication; a monthly stipend is provided.

• This position requires wearing safety gear and is physically demanding, often requiring lifting of materials and equipment.
• Work hours include a standard 40-hour week with occasional weekends and on-call responsibilities for emergencies.
