Job Title: HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) Manager
Reports To: Human Resources Manager
FLSA Status: Salaried, Exempt
Supervisor Responsibilities: No – Individual Contributor
Position Summary:
The HSE Manager is responsible for risk management efforts regarding employee health and safety, representation of the business in negotiations with state and federal agencies, and effectively coordinates all activities for safety, training, and compliance for all employees.
Job Responsibilities:
- Investigates and analyzes incidents and/or accidents pertaining to employee safety and makes corrective action plans with other members of management to mitigate risk.
- Coordinates monthly and ad hoc training in relation to OSHA/DOL requirements and company specific safety policies and procedures.
- Develops and maintains correspondence and contact with state, federal and private agencies to ensure all safety, health and environmental rules, laws or regulations are followed. Maintains accurate and timely knowledge of changing laws and their impact on the business or employees.
- Inspects, evaluates, and remedies deficiencies regarding employee health and safety, environmental impact and other areas of responsibility working with other members of management or government agency bodies to correct.
- Responds to and represents the company in all matters dealing with governmental agencies such as OSHA or DOL, such as investigations, serious injury events, or routine audits.
- Prepares safety training material and courses for all employees, and ensures compliance with necessary requirements, and schedules training classes as appropriate.
- Maintains all administrative files regarding HSE such as OSHA 300, OSHA 300-A, workers’ compensation claims forms and correspondence, and other agencies or tasks as needed or directed.
- Ensures that material safety date sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
- Develops and maintains all policies and procedures related to employee health, safety, and environment, such as emergency procedures, workplace safety and other relevant topics.
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Candidates are required to have a minimum of 2 years related experience in a safety-focused role, such as industrial hygienist, safety officer or alike titles.
- Must have excellent trouble shooting skills.
- Strong time management, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental safety, occupational safety and health, or related field required. Master’s degree is desirable. Experience in lieu of education may be accepted.
- Certified Safety Profession (CSP) or alike designations are highly desirable.
- Experience working in a unionized environment preferred.
Job Type: Full-time – 8 Hour Shift. Monday through Friday. Occasional overtime may be assigned or required.
Salary: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year base. This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus.
