Forklift Operator

Summary/objective:

This role is responsible for helping to dump our apples into our press line using a forklift and bin dumper attachment. This role also aids in the management of our cooler full of bins of apples, as well as bulk and bin receiving of apples. The person in this role helps to blend apples as we press. Helps with other tasks in the press room as available.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Assist with the duties of the Press Room; including but not limited to - cooler management of apple bins, press deck operation, inspection deck operation, and CIP duties.
• Aid in the appropriate apple blend from the cooler and bulk loads, keeping in mind pressures of apples and blends of types.
• Implement best practices. Working knowledge of horticultural practices to ensure high quality, consistent fruit presses.
• Practice forklift safety at all times
• Help with unloading of bin and bulk loads of apples.
• Nest empty apple crates/bins and keep an organized and clean working area.
• Keep the yard neat and orderly as bins are nested and organized.
• Work with teammates to achieve all plant goals

Required Skills and Abilities

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills required

•Demonstrated ability to coordinate and document workflow

•Ability to allocate personnel and equipment resources to ensure that production tasks are performed in a timely, most efficient, and safe manner

•Knowledge of safety regulations

•Excellent teamwork and organizational skill required

Work environment

The work environment can be cold, wet, hot, and noisy. The environment is in high places, wet surface, and can be exposed to loud machinery (ear protection is provided). The work environment is near moving or mechanical parts and lift truck traffic.

Physical demands

• Ability to stand for extend periods of time, walk, talk, hear, use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel, push, pull, reach, crouch, kneel, crawl or bend, and perform repetitive motions of the hands and/or wrist.
• Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20lbs of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Ability to work in multiple environments; this job is involves but indoor and outdoor tasks.

Required education and experience

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred education and experience

• Experience in a fruit pressing or manufacturing facility
