Job Description

Alpha Industrial Waste Services is in search of an experienced and dedicated HR Manager/Office Manager to join our team at our Stow, Ohio location.

Established in 2022, Alpha Industrial Waste Services is a leading provider of waste management services throughout the eastern United States. Our service offerings comprise non-hazardous and specialized waste management services including water treatment, solidification, waste to energy, and waste transportation services. With a strong focus on environmental stewardship, we prioritize material and waste reuse and recycling and landfill avoidance.

The HR Manager/Office Manager will lead and direct the routine functions of the Human Resources (HR) department including hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, benefits leave, enforcing company policies and practices. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits package. The HR Manager/Office Manager will report to the CEO. This position will allocate approximately 50% of time to Human Resource responsibilities and 50% of time on Office Manager responsibilities. Qualified individuals must reside within 30 minutes of North Akron, Ohio.

Essential Responsibilities:

HR Manager Responsibilities

  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Partners with the leadership team to understand and execute the organization’s human resource and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.
  • Creation of HR policies and procedures.
  • Provides support and guidance to HR generalists, management, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
  • Manages the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants, particularly for managerial, exempt, and professional roles; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Analyzes trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.
  • Creates learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.
  • Oversees employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Completes Forms I-9, verifies I-9 documentation and maintains I-9 files.
  • Submits online investigation requests and assists with new-employee background checks.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment regulations.

Office Manager Responsibilities

  • Maintain office supplies and equipment, overseeing procurement and inventory management.
  • Organize company events and activities to foster team collaboration and morale.
  • Assist in financial and budget management tasks as directed by management.
  • Perform general office management duties, including managing correspondence, scheduling appointments, and coordinating meetings.
  • Manage and route internal issue logs; working with management and staff to timely assign & resolve issues.
  • Coordinate & oversee office shipping.
  • Assist with travel arrangements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises the Office Administrator.

  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of human resource management experience preferred.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP highly desired.
  • Experience in managing direct reports.

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times.
  • Bending, kneeling, and stooping may be required on occasion.

Work Location: Onsite at our Stow, Ohio location.

Travel Required:

  • Will travel once per month to our Cambridge, Ohio office.
  • Travel on occasion as needed.
  • Less than 5% travel time.
  • Mileage reimbursement offered.
