Job Description

COMPANY DESCRIPTION:

JLN Contracting is growing and is seeking an Accounting/HR Professional in our Cromwell, CT Corporate office to join our highly-experienced team servicing our Connecticut and New Hampshire offices. We are a dynamic and growing Commercial General Contracting firm that provides pre-construction and construction services to the Industrial, Commercial, Financial, Medical, Retail and Automotive market sectors throughout the Northeast. At JLN Contracting we place the utmost importance upon proactive and effective communication, attention to detail and prompt follow-through to ensure quality control and compliance with JLN Contracting standards. The position is a direct report to the General Manager and the successful candidate will be an integral part of daily operations in a fast-paced office environment.

POSITION DESCRIPTION & DUTIES:

The primary roles of the Accounting/HR Professional will be oversight and accountability for all accounts payable and other accounting functions, and the majority of the human resource responsibilities for the company. The accounting role includes receiving, verifying, reconciling, and processing monthly subcontractor requisitions, updating internal spreadsheet controls, posting of invoices, reconciliation of vendor statements, bank reconciliations, payment processing, lien waivers and other document controls, interacting closely with JLN’s compliance personnel, project managers and project coordinators, ensuring accurate recordkeeping and adhering to internal controls and procedures. Other accounting functions include assisting with credit applications, processing W-9’s and vendor set-ups, assisting with internal & external audits, weekly reporting, annual 1099 forms, filing and archiving accounting related records.

The human resources role includes assistance with new employee on-boarding, processing payroll forms, federal & state tax forms, health insurance and 401K forms, distribution of company-owned equipment, access control set-up, company apparel distribution, business card orders, processing PTO requests, business credit card distribution, JLN employee handbook administration, organizing & updating employee files. Position also requires candidate being the point of contact for benefits related questions and accurate recordkeeping of same.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess strong written and oral communication skills
  • Must have the ability to follow instructions and adhere to company procedures
  • Should be a self-starter with initiative, enthusiasm and energy for the position
  • Computer program proficiency including, but not limited to: QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Contractor, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Project.
  • Must have attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Able to multi-task and pivot between various tasks quickly & efficiently
  • Possess strong mathematical and computer skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
  • Excellent time management skills and able to meet deadlines
  • Experience with AIA 702-703 monthly requisition processes
  • Able to investigate complex billing issues and resolve with subcontractors
  • This position requires in-person attendance at our Cromwell, CT corporate office
  • Must have a current, valid driver’s license and dependable transportation

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Five or more years of relevant experience, preferably within the private commercial construction industry for a general contractor
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Accounting field preferred
  • Human Resources knowledge & experience preferred
