SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITY:

This important position works under the supervision of the director of finance to perform accounting tasks in accordance with GAAP for non-profit entities and organizational standards. These activities include preparing weekly and monthly reports, completing journal entries, reconciliating accounts and drafting financial reports.

The staff accountant must a commitment to racial equity, diversity, and inclusion.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform routine accounting tasks in accordance with GAAP for non-profit entities and organizational standards.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, record transactions, prepare weekly invoice payments, and update accounts receivable.
  • Record journal entries ensuring appropriate documentation and approvals are maintained.
  • Reconcile accounts across multiple systems to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance of all organization bank accounts, designated GL accounts, and credit card statements monthly, addressing discrepancies in a timely manner. Gather necessary information from credit cardholders to properly post transactions to GL.
  • Monitor online banking daily, report suspicious activities to upper management, and record electronic deposits.
  • Review transactions and coding; prepare journal entries.
  • Assist the director of finance in creating and maintaining financial processes and procedures to build departmental efficiency and consistency.
  • Support the director of finance and the chief operating officer in the preparation of financial reports in accordance with GAAP, budgets, variance analysis, projections, forecasts, and other management reports.
  • Assist in annual audits.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Associate degree in accounting/finance, required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Three (3) years of experience in accounting or similar, required. Nonprofit experience is preferred.
  • Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Excel required. Advanced level preferred.
  • Demonstrated computer science skills and proficiency in Microsoft 365 is required. Aptitude to learn new software and systems is preferred.
  • Ability to analyze and present information concisely and effectively demonstrated with excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, organize and prioritize work, and collaborate across departments.
  • Ability to engage with diverse populations with professionalism and sensitivity; commitment to cultural competence; previous experience with economically disadvantaged populations.
  • Customer, client, or member relations experience; experience working in teams, excellent interpersonal skills with high emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to communicate in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Strong customer focus in all tasks and activities, even while at times under pressure.
  • Ability to perform job with integrity, mission, vision and values consistent with Operation Fuel.

  • Must be able to perform continuous bending, twisting, stooping, reaching and lifting of moderate to heavy weight material up to 20 lbs.

  • Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Must be able to walk, sit and stand for extended periods during the shift.
  • Ability to travel in state is a requirement.
