The Controls Technician will repair and perform maintenance on all electrical and control equipment in the production facility. This role will serve as an on-site subject matter expert for electrical and control equipment matters; troubleshoot and assist with design improvements and process changes to improve the functionality of electrical and control equipment, and programing electrical and electronic equipment and PLCs.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical, control, and electronic issues
- Lead the calibration of control equipment instrumentation, while working within corporate guidelines
- Assist with design improvements; process changes to improve the functionality of electrical and control equipment; maintain responsibility for programming PLCs
- Identify opportunities for optimization and implement continuous improvement measures to improve production line and conveyor efficiencies, productivity, and overall performance
- Assist mechanics with the repair of equipment issues
- Train maintenance personnel in the proper use and maintenance of electrical instrumentation and control equipment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- PLC programming knowledge
- Position requires programming knowledge of PLCs with experience on Allen Bradley systems
- Qualified applicants will possess knowledge of instrumentation, will be expected to successfully troubleshoot and calibrate instruments such as flow meters, pressure transmitters, and temperature transmitters
The candidate must possess previous electrical maintenance experience in an industrial or similar environment. Be a self-starter with a desire to learn new technical skills. Perform individually or in a group setting to complete assigned tasks and respond to trouble calls.
Consistently communicate professionally with production and co-workers; venders and contractors; peers and superiors, formally and informally on the production floor and meeting rooms.
Skillfully conduct and develop inspections, preventative and proactive type maintenance activities on all production related equipment. Conduct repair type maintenance activities on all production related equipment. Perform these tasks utilizing precision measuring and test instruments.
Utilize and maintain schematics and part drawings. Follow and develop SOPs and written procedures to perform all types of proactive and preventative maintenance tasks, repairs and rebuilds on all production related equipment. Utilize and maintain equipment and component documentation, parameters, software and wiring diagrams.
Recognize design and engineering design flaws that hinder machine performance and recommend and specify improvements for parts and design. Design, install and document machine upgrades for obsolete system replacement or enhanced machine performance.
Consistently act as an example to safe work habits. Create and maintain a safe and clean working environment and promote safe work habits with all Electrician positions, other skilled trades, production staff and visitors.
Through a thorough knowledge of the production process and an awareness of top down codes and other production constraints, focus on root cause analysis and intervention, correction and prevention of these bottlenecks by maintaining proactive and preventative scheduled maintenance task checklists and SOPs.
Assist the group’s manager or lead person in performing, prioritizing and planning resources for breakdowns. Support increased productivity of the group by minimizing the interruption of technicians performing planned and scheduled tasks.
