Position Information

Title: Hope Center Program Coordinator

FLSA Status: Hourly, Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Location(s): Hope Center

Reports to: Emergency Shelters Program Manager


Overview (what unique role does this position play within Rod’s House?)

The Program Coordinator supports the Youth Emergency Shelter through four key responsibilities; 1) Work closely with staff to provide a safe and welcoming environment for minors experiencing homelessness 2) Oversee the scheduling, supervision, and coaching of all Support Specialists 3) Engage volunteers and 4) Fulfill all the needs of the program which include coordinating the needs of the facility as directed by the Program Manager and ensuring the program has all supplies needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

Relationship Building and Problem Solving

  • Engage with youth to make them feel welcome, safe, and supported;

  • Collaborate with Program Manager, Case Manager, and Behavioral Health Specialist on how best to support youth;

  • Ensure proper communication is given to staff as needed.

Supervision and Training

  • Meet with Support Specialists on a weekly basis to review performance and professional goals;

  • Ensure all new Support Specialists complete onboarding within 2 weeks;

  • Ensure monthly trainings are completed and documented for all staff;

  • Manage the recruitment, interview, and selection process for Support Specialists;

Safety and Cleanliness

  • Ensure program is safe and clean at all times;

  • Coordinate necessary cleaning supplies;

  • Oversee monthly fire drill, quarterly earthquake drill, and yearly active shooter drill;

  • Facilitate weekly fire and safety inspection.

  • Maintain proper record keeping.

General

  • Complete 2 monthly chart revisions for youth currently enrolled in shelter;

  • Provide support in attending community meetings, as directed by the Program Manager;

  • Complete data entry tasks and submit monthly data reports to Program Manager;

  • Record meal partners, volunteer hours, and in-kind donations in donor database;

  • Ensure standard operating procedures are clearly defined, updated, and followed;

  • Regularly assess and recommend improvements for policies, procedures, and processes;

  • Provide general on call assistance and support as directed;

  • Maintain a positive, non-judgmental, trauma-informed approach;

  • Actively seek opportunities to be inclusive and equitable.

Complete all duties as assigned and other duties as required.


Required or Preferred Education and/or Experience

  • One of the following (required):

    • A master’s degree in social services or a closely related field from an accredited school and one year of experience working with youth (ages 13-17) OR;

    • A bachelor’s degree in social services or a closely related field from an accredited school and tw0 years of experience working with children or youth OR;

    • A high school diploma or equivalent and five years of successful full-time experience in a relevant field working with children or youth; and (i) supervisory abilities that promote effective staff performance; and (ii) relevant experience, training, and demonstrated skills in each area that they will be managing or supervising.

  • An understanding of and adherence to a strengths-based philosophy with youth (required);

  • Dedication to promoting an inclusive and diverse workplace through competency in equity, race, social justice, differently-abled, and LGBTQIA2S+ identities (required);

  • Experience and proven success in coaching and managing teams (required);

  • Bilingual (Spanish-English) (strongly preferred);

  • Nonprofit management or leadership experience, such as program planning and evaluating, budgeting, and supervising (strongly preferred);

  • Experience working with individuals who have experienced trauma, specifically severe mental illnesses and substance use disorders (preferred);

  • Knowledge in human services, social work, education, or a related field (preferred);

  • Lived experience relevant to the population served (preferred).


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be at least 21 years of age (required);

  • Pass a Washington State criminal background check (required);

  • Pass a Federal (FBI) criminal background check (required);

  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance is (required);

  • Possess skills and ability to work successfully with the unique needs of children in care;

  • Effective communication and problem solving skills;

  • Ability to work with youth in crisis;

  • Can employ professionalism and patience in high stress environments;

  • Understanding the importance of flexibility in a job;

  • Proven ability to create a system or process when one does not exist;

  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships;

  • Creative problem solver:

  • Willingness to learn and teach new things;

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to details;

Work Conditions and Physical Requirements

Shifts include overnight, evening, and early mornings including holidays. This position requires daily interactions with youth experiencing homelessness and with community members, social service providers, and other organizations.. Physical requirements for the position include frequent walking, hearing, seeing, speaking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, grasping, climbing, and repetitive motions. This position requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, pull, or move objects.


Rod’s House will reasonably accommodate qualified individuals with a disability so that they can perform the essential functions of a job unless doing so causes a direct threat to these individuals or others in the workplace and the threat cannot be eliminated by reasonable accommodation or if the accommodation creates an undue hardship to Rod’s House.


Salary/Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting hourly wage of $19.50 per hour;

  • 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday;

  • Within 30 days, employer pays medical (90%), dental (90%), and vision (90%) insurance;

  • Eligible to receive up to a 5% raise based on annual performance review;

  • 10 paid Washington state holidays;

  • 15 days of paid time off granted immediately, increasing by 5 days every 2 years;

  • 2 hours of paid sick leave accrued for every 40 hours worked, with up to 80 hours eligible for annual rollover;

  • Company-issued cell phone and computer;

  • FREE CPR/First Aid Certification;

  • FREE CPI (non-violent crisis intervention) Certification;

  • FREE WA State Food Handler Permit;
