Retail Sales Associate

Aster Jewelers, is a fine jewelry, art, and home goods boutique in Oakland dedicated to fostering an inclusive and welcoming place for our customers. We showcase a diverse selection of bespoke and original fine jewelry from indie artists in the Oakland community and beyond, and we provide full-service jewelry repair. As an LGBTQ woman-owned business, we support our community through events and donations. We are seeking a dynamic, friendly, and creative part-time sales associate to join our team at our Montclair neighborhood location.

As a Sales Associate at Aster, you'll share your passion for art and fine jewelry with our customers, providing them with a great experience and exceptional customer service. You will be the person responsible for providing a warm and comfortable atmosphere and assisting our customers in discovering the perfect piece, learning about our artists or dealing with a repair. In addition to Sales, your responsibilities will include opening and closing the shop, keeping things tidy in the front-of-house, taking in repairs, and occasionally welcoming our four-legged customers into our pet-friendly shop.

While this role is primarily a sales position, there is room for growth at Aster in areas such as fine jewelry production, wholesale buying, and marketing. We are a small team, and there are many opportunities to contribute (and grow!) with the Aster team.

Key Duties (May include, but are not limited to):

• Sales, Intake and Quoting of repairs, and customer service in the shop
• Process sales via Shopify POS
• Educate customers about our products. If needed, help customers over the phone or in person and direct them to the proper channels.
• Restocking shelves.
• Maintaining a clean and tidy shop, including display cases.
• Open and close the shop as needed.
• Maintain current knowledge of our Products, Brands, and Artists so that you can promote them to our customers.
• Communicate effectively with the jewelry studio.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Availability to work weekends; total of 3 days a week in our Montclair shop (~18 hrs)
• Strong Customer Service and Communication Skills, with an emphasis on active listening and problem-solving
• Experience and Comfort with POS systems and operational tasks (Shopify, POS, Loss Prevention)
• Positive attitude: works and communicates well with others as part of a team, self-starting, detail oriented and organized.
• Appreciation for art and community!
