Our client, a reputable Michigan-based law firm with a diverse practice, is seeking a skilled Insurance Defense Practice Paralegal to join their dynamic team in their Grand Rapids office. As a paralegal at their firm, you'll play a pivotal role in supporting the attorneys by performing essential paralegal duties in insurance defense matters. The Firm islooking for a proactive and detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of litigation concepts and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Calendar/Document Management:

    • Develop and maintain a docket of important dates and deadlines to ensure timely preparation for attorneys.
    • Manage requests for information, ensuring the receipt of required documents in advance of deadlines.
    • Review and summarize case files, medical records, and other documents as necessary.
  • Trial Preparation and Proceedings:

    • Prepare exhibits for depositions and trial.
    • Draft basic discovery motions upon request.
    • Conduct pre-trial investigations and initial case assessments.
    • Arrange and schedule independent Medical Examinations across various practice specialties.
    • Organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs, and appendices for trial proceedings.
    • Act as a liaison between trial teams, internal/external third parties, attorneys, and expert witnesses.
    • Assist attorney(s) in all phases of litigation.
  • Meet or Exceed Billable Hours Requirement:

    • Ensure billable hours meet or exceed set requirements.
  • Other Duties:

    • Perform additional job duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • College degree or paralegal certification from an ABA approved program preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a paralegal in insurance defense.
  • Strong understanding of litigation concepts and Michigan Court Rules.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities effectively.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 programs.
  • Strong work ethic, sense of urgency, and adaptability.
  • Proactive and responsive to the needs of the practice group.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
