Direct Support Professional DSP

As a Direct Support Professional, you will carry out rewarding work, play an integral and crucial role in the success of the individual. DSPs assist with daily activities such as meal preparation, personal hygiene, and medication administration. You may also facilitate community involvement by accompanying individuals in the community or providing transportation to work or other activities. In addition, DSPs partner with clinical staff to support the therapeutic and behavioral supports needed.

DUTIES:
• Show respect and supports the dignity of the individuals served and complies with the “Individual Bill of Rights” at all times.
• Provides physical assistance and related personal care to individuals when feeding, toileting, dressing, and
ambulating. Assists individuals who have physical impairments with transfers and mobility. Uses provided lift devices when appropriate.
• Implements and monitors formal and informal programs as instructed in areas of behavioral intervention, functional language, personal care, leisure activities, and vocational training. Assists in developing adaptations as needed. Provides input for program development.
• Transports individuals to various community sites, as requested.
• Strictly follows confidentiality policy.
• Interprets, implements, and follows laws, statutes, rules, regulations, standards, plans, and policies applicable to this position.
• Maintain (company provided) First Aid and CPR Certifications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Current Ohio driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to agency’s insurance carrier.
• Must be physically capable to lift 50 lbs., move, push and pull, stand, sit, and kneel in a safe manner.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
• Ability to be dependable in punctuality and attendance.
• Ability to work professionally and cooperatively with individuals, coworkers, family members and members of the public.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing and complete routine forms.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, picture, and schedule form.
• Ability to implement training and behavioral management techniques.
• Ability to observe and document behaviors, incidents, and medical occurrences (e.g. seizures).
