Job Description
Company Overview | Close Up Foundation is the nation’s leading nonprofit, nonpartisan civic education organization. Our mission is to inform, inspire, and empower young people to exercise their rights and accept the responsibilities of citizens in a democracy. Leading the way in civic education since 1971, we believe that a strong democracy requires active and informed participation by all citizens regardless of community, socioeconomic level, and academic standing. For over 50 years, we have fulfilled this mission by working with more than 20,000 students and teachers annually through travel programs, professional development for educators, and classroom resources designed to empower young people for a lifetime of active citizenship.

Position Overview | The talent acquisition specialist is responsible for supporting all aspects of the recruitment and hiring cycle, ensuring Close Up attracts, retains, and motivates a high-performing, diverse workforce. This person thrives in a fast-paced, nonprofit environment where recruitment and communication strategies must align with a broad range of departmental needs.

Each year, the talent acquisition specialist will be responsible for recruiting a large cohort of entry-level recent college graduates who will serve as mentors and teachers to middle and high school students from across the country. This person will be expected to develop strong relationships with colleges and universities, and network with educational organizations and institutions. A demonstrated interest in education and experience with entry-level recruiting is preferred.

*This position is eligible for 1 day work from home option after 1 year of service.*

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify recruiting platforms and employ multiple strategies to build a strong talent pipeline of entry-level candidates through networking, social media, college and university recruiting systems, and employee referrals.
  • Lead and collaborate with management to determine recruitment strategies tailored to each department and vacancy.
  • Under the supervision of the Human Resources manager, serve as the primary administrator for the ADP Recruitment platform, preparing job postings and managing applications.
  • Handle the entire hiring cycle, including interviewing logistics, phone screening, scheduling, checking references, preparing offer letters, administering background checks, and onboarding.
  • Provide semi-monthly reports for new hires.
  • Assist with annual job description updates.
  • Ensure integrity and confidentiality of all employment files.
  • In addition to recruiting, assist with other HR functions during non-peak times, such as offboarding, payroll, and other duties.
  • Serve as a backup for any and all HR needs.
  • Prepare desktop procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in talent acquisition and managing a full recruitment cycle, including working with ADP or a similar platform.
  • Demonstrated interest in education and experience with entry-level recruiting (preferred).
  • Basic knowledge of benefits administration.
  • Strong oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills; excellent at sourcing, screening, and identifying competitive candidates for a diverse set of positions.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively across the organization.
  • Highly communicative, responsible, empathetic, and approachable.
  • Great at building relationships and following up with both internal and external stakeholders and candidates.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to read, analyze, and interpret HR documents.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, manage multiple projects and processes simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and respond promptly to time-sensitive inquiries.
