SUMMARY OF POSITION
We are seeking a highly skilled Analytical/Characterization Specialist to join our Material Characterization team. The ideal candidate will be pivotal in operating a diverse range of analytical/characterization instruments, ensuring maintenance, and troubleshooting instrument-related issues to maintain lab operational efficiency and data quality. The successful candidate will play a key role in the Material Characterization team, which is an integral part of the core R&D team for developing and improving catalyst product at SD. MAJOR ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform various analysis on catalyst samples and associated materials using instrumentation including physisorption (BET), mercury porosimeter, Chemisorption, Temperature programmed desorption, reduction, oxidation (TPD/TPR/TPO), TGA-DSC, SEM, GC, MS, and other characterization techniques available through collaboration.
- Be responsible for the performance (accuracy and reliability) of the mentioned instruments through calibration, regular maintenance, and prompt troubleshooting of issues to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate closely with team members to identify areas for process improvement and streamline efficiency enhancement. Identify needs, organize, and perform feasibility studies and assessments, and drive the acquisition of new instruments/techniques as required.
- Stay current on emerging analytical techniques, methods, and equipment relating to catalyst characterization to continually improve skills and knowledge. Maintain close contact with relevant instrument vendors and stay updated on characterization techniques.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while operating instruments and handling hazardous materials, building, and maintaining high safety standards within the team.
BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemistry, material science, chemical engineering, or other related fields.
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience operating and troubleshooting analytical/characterization instrumentation in a lab environment with experience in charactering catalyst or inorganic materials preferred.
- Proficiency in techniques such as BET, Hg-PVD, Chemisorption, TPD/TPR/TPO, TGA-DSC and SEM imaging is required; additional experience in elemental analysis using XRF, atomic Adsorption and ICP are desired.
- Strong ability and interest in hands-on laboratory work coupled with extensive experience in analytical/characterization techniques and a strong problem-solving acumen.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data recording and analysis.
- Proven ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
