You’ll be working collaboratively with some of the smartest, and design-forward experts in award-winning hospitality-driven spaces and experiences

You should have exceptional design skills, be a highly-motivated leader, possess a background knowledge of hospitality, and have a portfolio showcasing creative design concepts.


CREATIVE LEADER / TEAM LEADER / CLIENT LEADER


An AvroKO Sr. Design Lead (LD) is the most senior staff position in the company before a directorial role. The role requires a balance of directing our work, while also doing the work. The role assumes responsibility for the design performance of projects in totality in terms of the creativity and functionality of the design, quality, and efficacy of the work product.

The LD serves as the primary day to day interface with clients and the broader project team, and will work across multiple portfolio AvroKO projects, some of greater complexity or scale, yet always with the support of multiple teams of designers.


Reporting Structure

The LD reports to the Design Director and depending on project scale and complexity, may on occasion report directly our CCO (Chief Creative Officer)


Leadership

  • Practiced at representing the firm before clients, project partners, and industry leaders.
  • Responsible for the project team’s performance in the design, documentation and delivery on multiple projects.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact on a project maintaining close client and broader project team relationships and communications.
  • Acting as the client’s advocate within our design team.
  • Support studio leadership engendering culture and collaborative work environment within project teams, with other internal departments, and our sister companies.
  • Very competent and highly experienced in the delivery of professional design presentations and collaborating with Clients, Operators, end users, and consultants.
  • Well-versed in setting priorities.
  • Effective communicator setting goals and priorities for the team.
  • Exceptional Time and resource management.
  • Is a key motivator, mentor, and inspiration to design teams.

Design & Production

  • Leading the AvroKO team in conceiving the project design to meet the clients program, quality objectives, project constraints as well as AvroKO’s brand of design.
  • Organize and run regular in-house design sessions presenting to the P.I.C and with the team.
  • Monitoring the team’s production of presentations, and contract documents: working drawings, FF&E technical drawings, specifications, budgets, and art feature or styling packages, for quality, completeness, coordination, and punctuality.
  • From time to time, actively prepare project deliverables with the team where extra support and expertise are required.

Creative

  • Professionally seasoned advanced proficiency in; Narrative driven conceptual ideation and design, with a strong emphasis in hospitality, honed through extensive professional practice and advanced technical understanding.
  • Advanced proficiency in the interior architectural design process, including space planning, volumetric design, materials, finishes, color palettes, FF&E, art features, and styling.
  • Demonstrated professional presentation skills - graphic, written and spoken. Ability to articulate design thinking to the broader project team and client.

Technical

  • Professionally demonstrated advanced proficiency in: Industry leading interior architecture design processes, and the practical and technical aspects of each step through project start up, programming, ideation, space planning, design, client management, coordination, documentation and specification, cost evaluations & value engineering, custom FF&E design, construction administration and project closeout.
  • Understanding and application of codes and regulations commonly governing interior architectural design.
  • Proficient in relevant ergonomic, operational and environmental health and safety issues related to hospitality design.
  • Expert knowledge in commercial hospitality FFE Specification and custom fabrication.

Teamwork

  • Able to collaborative manage a team and support one's colleagues. Fair minded and respectful.
  • Very well organized and able to step back to see the whole.
  • Open to asking questions, learning and acting on critical feedback. Adaptable.
  • Supervise, develop and mentor Designers.
  • Has the ability to confidently communicate, lead and respond to external project teams, contractors, consultants and project managers.

Documentation & PM Team

  • Responsible for creating and delivering presentations based on AvroKO’s deliverables standards for presentations and contract documents.
  • Alongside the PM, Oversee the production and delivery of a quality and timely sets of contract documents being drawings, specifications, budgets and reports as proscribed by the contract.
  • Coordinate with the PM in providing services per scope, budget and schedule.
  • Alongside the PM, manage project design coordination within AvroKO i.e. between interior architecture, FF&E and industrial design.
  • Alongside the PM, manage coordination with our brand / F&B strategists and graphic designers at our sister studio’s Brand Bureau and our procurement team at Goodshop & AvroKO Product, when applicable.

Requirements:
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in high-end hospitality focused interior design
  • Broad understanding of multiple hospitality typologies including restaurant, bar, guest room, and resort work
  • $125K - $155K Annual Salary
