Job Description

The Harvard Mediation Program (HMP) is a student practice organization and clinical program under the umbrella of the Harvard Negotiation and Mediation Clinical Program (HNMCP) at Harvard Law School. Established 40 years ago, HMP provides opportunities for HLS students and community members to learn, practice, and teach mediation and provides mediation services to the Trial Court of MA and to disputing parties in the Greater Boston area. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Program Assistant will work 14 hours per week (max) and help support a variety of tasks/initiatives central to HMP’s operations. This position provides flexible work arrangements (in-person and remote in accordance with HLS guidelines on remote work) and the possibility for greater flexibility in the summer.

Duties

§  Oversee mediator assignments for HMP’s court sessions including screening court docket, recruiting mediator support, and coordinating with court personnel.

§  Maintain list of active mediators and upcoming mediation opportunities via the Mediator Availability Tracker, Microsoft Teams.

§  In accordance with HMP’s privacy and confidentiality policy:

§  Organize/upload documents received from court (e.g., court dockets, statements of claims).

§  Retrieve HMP paperwork (consent, settlements, post-mediation form) from mediators and upload to Microsoft Teams.

§  Record and provide case statistics to HMP staff on court referrals/mediations/outcomes.

§  Oversee version control and finalization of HMP policy, resource, and best practice documents in Microsoft Teams.

§  Support basic training preparations (e.g., proofing binder, printing roleplays, etc.)

§  Support the process for collecting feedback from parties who have participated in mediation.

§  Participate in staff and other HMP meetings.

 

Qualifications and Skills

·       Bachelor's Degree is strongly preferred

·       Interest or background in mediation a plus.

·       Computer skills - Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Zoom, Adobe Acrobat

·       Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate professionally with a diverse community

·       Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills

·       Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
