We are looking for a housing specialist or coordinator with excellent people skills to assess candidates for housing and assist clients with securing and maintaining affordable, permanent housing. The housing coordinator's responsibilities include liaising with community organizations, government agencies, and property owners to source the means and negotiate terms that enable clients to rent suitable housing. To be successful as a housing specialist, you should have good listening skills and a great deal of patience. An outstanding housing specialist should be an excellent mediator and highly knowledgeable about the property market, social services, and legal restrictions.
Housing Coordinator Responsibilities:
- Assessing clients' eligibility
- Working with clients to create a housing plan centered on their needs and wishes.
- Assisting clients with the search for available properties and negotiating terms.
- Assisting with move-in dates, including logistics, hands-on support with moving services, packing and unpacking, procuring grants for furnishings.
- Collaborating with government agencies, community organizations, and property owners.
- Ensuring clients understand their rights and responsibilities as tenants.
- Assisting clients to resolve concerns or questions with landlords.
- Providing clients with information and referring them to additional supports or services.
- Preparing and maintaining daily logs, records, activity documentation, and reports.
- Understanding and adhering to program rules and restrictions.
- Providing ongoing support for housing stabilization.
- Other duties as assigned.
This position is FULL TIME ONLY. This position is in the office, no remote positions are available.
Housing Coordinator Requirements:
- EDUCATION: Bachelors degree. Associate's Degree accepted if has at least 6 months VERIFIABLE experience in the field of housing.
- MUST HAVE a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle with current car insurance (proof required).
- MUST PASS a Department of Human Services (DHS) background study.
- Ability to work in the community in a variety of settings including residential location of persons diagnosed with substance abuse, mental health disorders, physical, cognitive and developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge of social service agencies and community services.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards and property management.
- Good communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, listening and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical, mediating, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Flexible/ adaptable with cultural norms and practices; embrace diversity.
- Experience working with people with disabilities or who are at risk of homelessness.
- Ability to effectively manage time and caseload to ensure punctuality to work, appointments, as well as meet deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft office especially word and excel. Ability to engage in extensive periods of computer work. Ability to sit at a desk for periods of several hours.

- Positively and professionally represent agency, program and participant needs.
- Ability to maintain a neat and professional environment.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Preferred skills and qualifications:
- BACHELOR degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Human Services or related field is a PLUS.
- Bilingual / multilingual.
- Experience as a housing coordinator.
