Greatland Corporation, an employee-owned trusted national leader in web-based products and services for businesses, is seeking a motivated and experienced financial leader for the role of Corporate Controller in our Grand Rapids, MI office.

What You Will Do

The Controller directs and oversees the accounting, payroll, tax and financial functions of the corporation and partners collaboratively and consultatively with all areas of the business to drive optimal financial performance in line with the Company’s long‐term strategy and focus.

The role is responsible for leading, developing, and motivating staff for accurate and quality processing today and in preparation for the department’s needs in the future.

The Controller demonstrates strong financial technical expertise, leadership skills, and business acumen, influential and articulate communication skills, and capably performs deep data analysis and synthesis to solve business problems. This position reports to the CFO.

You Will Succeed By

Driving Business Results

  • Oversees operations of the accounting, payroll, tax and financial reporting functions.
  • Prepares and analyzes operating budgets, financial statements and forecasts for all operations.
  • Develops tax-planning strategies and prepares corporate income tax provisions.
  • Assists with valuations and due diligence related to acquisition opportunities.
  • Develops and maintains proper internal controls for accounting systems and processes.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of all activities of the payroll and sales/use tax compliance functions.
  • Responsible for all activities of the accounts payable, accounts receivable and credit collection functions.

  • Selects, manages, and directs a high-performing team, with personnel responsibility from hiring to termination.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely with all direct reports to promote the Company, department, and team vision, goals, and objectives.
  • Conducts regular one-on-one meetings to coach, develop and motivate direct reports on individual performance, personal and professional development plans.
  • Cultivates an internal pipeline of talent to ensure the Company has the leadership, management and work skills needed to achieve long-term business objectives.

Ensure Market Driven Direction

  • Responsible for aligning departmental strategy or direction with the overall goals of the organization.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum of seven years of financial and accounting experience, including knowledge of GAAP and tax filing requirements
  • At least three years of people management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance and/or accounting
  • Minimum of three years of public accounting experience is highly desired
  • CPA and Certified Management Accountant (CMA®) or Certified in Strategy & Competitive Analysis (CSCA®) designation is preferred
  • Ability to exercise discretion and handle confidential information

  • Professional verbal and written communication skills, professional presentation skills
  • Personal initiative to forensically find answers

Scope of Accountability

This position leads and directs the work of six employees and regularly interacts with Senior Leadership.

Position Travel Requirements

Occasional travel to other Greatland locations and to conferences or training for personal development.

Typical Work Schedule

Standard business hours Monday through Friday.

FLSA Status

Salaried, Exempt position, i.e. not overtime pay eligible.

Peak Work Time Requirements

Position typically requires 40 - 45 hours a week.

Working Conditions

General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment.
