We are seeking an Area Lead to join our Building Consulting team for the Virginias Region. This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial, highly driven person with a well-rounded skill set, whose responsibilities extend beyond those of traditional vice presidents, project managers and estimators. The ideal person for this role will need to not only have a strong grasp of property damage evaluation but also be flexible and a strategic thinker, able to take on a variety of tasks.


Our building consulting team participates in projects of all sizes and scopes spanning from residential and middle-market commercial to the most complex economic, industrial, and infrastructure matters.

 

Job Description:


The ideal candidate for this position possesses a minimum of 5 – 10+ years of work experience in the restoration and building consulting field in a leadership role, with responsibilities for estimating residential and large commercial complex losses. As an Area Lead, you will be responsible for managing the work of our technical staff within our Northeast Region. Candidates with experience in adjustment, reconstruction, storms, catastrophes and restoration projects, or equivalent fields are welcome to apply.


The ideal candidate would possess and/or have a strong desire to understand and learn the methodology for executing files in a timely manner and to apply strong analytical and writing skills to expert reports. They constantly apply strong analytical and writing skills to produce expert reports to support our clients in making important high-value decisions.


Please note that our office is in Northern, VA. Candidates located in the Central and Northern VA area are encouraged to apply.


Job Responsibilities:


  • Leads the building consulting technical staff within the Virginias region, partnering with the Northeast Regional Leader to ensure internal and external client satisfaction and a high level of service.
  • Operates as Subject Matter Expert providing technical direction to consultants while ensuring the quality of client services and deliverables.
  • Works directly with the Talent Acquisition team to scout and build candidate pipelines, assisting them in the field by identifying talent for business growth of all practice lines.
  • Leads the staff performance review process within the practice group with assistance from the Regional Lead and Practice lead.
  • Provides local training, tools, onboarding, and offboarding, ensuring technical compliance for their team on corporate policies.
  • Promotes an exceptional employee experience through high standards of professional development and opportunities for career advancement.
  • Collaborates with counterpart Area Leads from other practice lines and regions to integrate, cross-sell and support all J.S. Held expert services.
  • Manages the development of strategic plans, policies, procedures, and utilization percentages within the team and region assigned.
  • Manages and ensures KPI compliance with Vendor Agreements.
  • Collaborates with Business Development Managers and Regional Business Development teams in the implementation of market development strategies.
  • Develops new business opportunities and strengthens existing relationships to increase work within the area and staff utilization.


Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s or associate degree from an accredited college or university; or 10 years of demonstrable experience and accomplishments in the restoration industry, in lieu of a degree may suffice.
  • Relevant experience in the restoration and/or restoration contracting field specializing in working with insurance companies, with responsibilities related to scheduling, project management, and estimating.
  • Proficiency in working with Xactimate, Symbility, RS Means, or other estimating software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word with strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to produce high-quality expert reports.
  • Valid driver’s
  • Strong project management skills; Strong analysis and critical thinking skills; Strong ability to meet deadlines while being detail oriented.
  • Strong independent work ethic and leadership skills and qualities.
  • Exceptional customer service skills to support and solve our client’s questions and requests.

 

Preferred Qualifications:


  • IICRC related degrees, credentials, or certifications.
  • HAAG, RRO, PMP, and other certifications.

 

Physical and Mental Job Qualifications


  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
  • Must be able to write reports of findings after inspections 50% of day-to-day
  • May be exposed to UV radiation from the sun, radon, or other forms of air pollution.
  • Must be able to be on call or work weekends or
  • Willingness to travel overnight, out-of-state, abroad, and for CAT response when needed.
