RP is hiring a Senior Accountant to assist the accounting department. This is a new position for the Company and the Senior Accountant would report to the Controller. The Senior Accountant would assist with the daily operations of both the accounting department. In addition, the Senior Accountant would play a key role in the month end close process. The ideal candidate would be an individual who has strong analytical and problem-solving skills, who is able to be self-directed and work independently with limited supervision. The Senior Accountant would be expected to demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving to assist with the implementation of new processes and procedures for the first time, as needed. RP is looking for a candidate that has strong technical skills in both GAAP and FAR who is also well versed in systems such as PROCAS and iSolved. Other core requirements of this position include the ability to thrive in a fast-paced working environment, good time management skills, the ability hit deadlines, and to pivot quickly when needed. This position will be a good fit for a growth-minded individual who is empowered to help build out a new accounting and finance department as the company continues to grow. This position is mainly remote, with occasional in-person meetings in the office.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversight over the following areas:
    • Day-to-day, assigned operational tasks of the accounting department, including monitoring systems and processes and transactions
    • Financial administration tasks (cash receipts, accounts receivables, purchases and disbursements, accounts payable, etc.)
    • Maintenance of accounting files for proper documentation and record keeping in compliance with GAAP and FAR standards
  • Preparation and submission of customer invoices including coordination with Project Managers to ensure accurate rates and timesheet entries.
  • Management of Accounts Payable inbox and payment of vendor invoices in a timely manner
  • Assist with production of internal and external financial reports, ensuring they comply with reporting standards, responding to regulatory and funding agencies, in addition to responding to the organizations user needs
  • Ownership of assigned tasks for the month-end close process including but not limited to responsibility for balance sheet account reconciliations, expense accruals, posting contract activity and all operating systems/processes that support it
  • Assist in development of company finance functions such as monthly and annual budgets and contract profitability and funding analysis
  • Coordination and support of external audits (for example, financial statement audit, DCAA audit, etc.)
  • Develop process improvements to further accounting departments processes to ensure efficiency and compliance with applicable standards
  • Maintenance of electronic records in compliance with laws and regulations, as well as reporting needs for external audits
  • Effective communication of financial guidance with individuals from both financial and nonfinancial backgrounds
  • Handling of both sensitive and confidential information with the highest level of professionalism and the utmost care

Requirements

Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or related business field, with emphasis in Accounting
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Experience working for/ with a government contractor
  • Experience in accounting department with emphasis on Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Month-End Close process
  • The ability to work for any US employer without requiring sponsorship
  • Expert proficiency with Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of other Microsoft Office products
  • CPA/CPA Candidate preferred
