This role is 3rd Shift, 12 (twelve) hour shift in a 3+3+1 schedule and based at our new distillery in Bardstown, KY.


What the Role Is

The Distillery Maintenance Technician will be responsible for performing all aspects of distillery maintenance centered on the non-negotiables of safety, quality and productivity. The Technician will maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all distillery process equipment in a complex, highly automated facility. This position will be cross trained to support all functional areas of the distillery in an empowered/self-directed environment. It will drive and support efficient, highly-productive operations in a demanding setting.

How You Will Spend Your Time?

  • Perform complex maintenance duties including mechanical/electrical and PLC troubleshooting, welding, and preventative maintenance
  • Perform the preventative, predictive and breakdown maintenance of distillery process, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment
  • Support and execute plant specific maintenance strategies to achieve distillery KPI’s and overall maintenance performance
  • Cross-train to perform all maintenance technician tasks with high proficiency and efficiency
  • Perform in a self-directed work team environment, with a focus on collaboration and shared accountability for the overall success of the maintenance team
  • Consult with Lead Maintenance Technician and distillery management to develop preventative maintenance plans to reduce equipment downtime
  • Maintain all distillery process equipment including but not limited to boiler operations, chilled water systems, material air/mechanical conveying systems, pumps, motors, valves, positioners, instrumentation, etc.
  • Provide quick response to maintenance requests and calls from Lead Maintenance Technician and distillery operations teams
  • Liaise with other distillery management and other team members to ensure all safety, quality, and productivity KPIs are met or exceeded
  • Partner with other distillery management and other team members to foster a Lean Manufacturing and a Continuous Improvement atmosphere
  • Fulfill any role necessary at the time to assist the entire maintenance and manufacturing teams in succeeding and meeting established goals.
  • Create a positive and informative guest experience by engaging with visitors, business partners, and key stakeholders to share pertinent information regarding the art and science of distillation, knowledge of Heaven Hill’s various mash bills, and diverse product portfolio
  • Sustain the Heaven Hill Production System (Lean Manufacturing)
  • Responsible for maintaining a high level of safety, cleanliness and performing housekeeping (5S) duties within the assigned area and throughout the entire facility. Including but not limited to upkeep of trash, cleaning work areas and break rooms, etc.
  • Complete safety audits monthly
  • Operate heavy material handling equipment such as scissor lift, fork-lift, etc., with appropriate training and certification

Who You Are…

  • Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance or related degree, Journeyman’s certification in Industrial Maintenance or equivalent years’ work-related experience, specifically in manufacturing required
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an industrial maintenance role, preferably within distilled spirits or similar industry required
  • Successful completion of Bennett Mechanical Test required
  • Previous experience maintaining and troubleshooting the following types of equipment: boiler operations, chilled water systems, material air/mechanical conveying systems, pumps, motors, valves, positioners, instrumentation, etc. preferred
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional, self-directed work team with keen focus on improving every day and working together to win
  • Critical thinking skills. Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Flexibility to learn and maintain cutting-edge technology
  • Ability to internalize and execute new operational techniques and processes
  • Analytical skills, particularly with data collection and analysis to present solutions
  • Highly proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Public speaking experience and excellent presentation abilities
  • Technical writing experience developing standard operating procedures and other written correspondence
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft systems such as Outlook, Excel, etc.  
  • Instrumentation & Controls Background Preferred
  • Electrical & Mechanical knowledge – knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance

Physical Requirements

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing duties of job, employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, and use of computer; reach with hands and arms. Use tools and other machinery required to perform basic maintenance tasks. Must be able to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work from elevated platforms, aerial lifts, ladders, and scaffolding, up to 90 feet; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools and supplies and/or exert 50 lbs.; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls and machinery. 

  • Frequent and extensive walking is required in this position, including walking up and down stairs. 
  • Will be required to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions, and work in personnel protective equipment.
  • Must be capable of regular attendance and working various shifts, including but not limited to 12 hour shifts, and overtime hours as needed.
