POSITION SUMMARY
Performs a variety of routine duties directly related to capturing fingerprints and images as part of the identification process relating to clearance checks as required by federal and state mandates. In addition, the Identification Technician must serve as a public relations liaison for the department with the general public. The Identification Technician works under the general direction and supervision of the Chief of Police. Work involves some initiative and independent judgment and is periodically reviewed at completion.
Work is performed during regularly scheduled hours and may involve additional hours as needed.
The position is exempt under the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs electronic fingerprinting functions according to the commercial, state, or federal customer’s program requirements.
- Successfully complete required biometric and data capture processes and paperwork on each customer.
- Obtain successful customer fingerprint images and capture biometric information to meet or exceed program.
- Verify customer identity and scan required documents into database system.
- Perform basic maintenance and troubleshoot issues with fingerprinting and retail equipment, including computer hardware and software.
- Provide superior customer service to customers.
QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Some knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment.
- General knowledge of filing systems.
- Ability to carry out moderate tasks with accuracy critical to the success of the task.
- Ability to learn the applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations.
- Skill in the operation of the tools and equipment listed below.
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate orally and in writing in the English language.
- Ability to plan, organize and complete assigned tasks in a timely fashion.
- Ability to analyze and prepare reports, if requested.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with Township employees, elected officials, other agencies, and the public.
- Ability to handle all matters pertaining to the Police Department with the utmost confidentiality.
Education and experience
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent with one year of training at a business school, and three years of work experience in a related area.

- Personal computer, including specialized equipment, camera, telephone.
