Job Description

Position Summary

Working under the supervision of the Program Director and in collaboration with the Program Coordinator, the Program Instructor is responsible for providing an exciting, quality summer learning experience that will result in students achieving true personal and professional development success in accordance with Evoluer House policies and curriculum. We’re looking for energetic and nurturing candidates who have experience working with traditionally underserved youth and have skills to teach and empower teen girls.

Our program is designed to promote emotional, mental, and social well-being, to equip girls with the tools they need to become college-bound and career-ready, and break the cycle of intergenerational poverty. We are on a mission to help produce strong female leadership in the workforce by investing in the collective well-being and power of young women and girls.

Reports to: Program Director and Program Coordinator

Salary: $30 - $35/hr. (dependent upon experience)

Type: Part-time - Experienced

Start date: End of June through August 2024. Approximately 9-11 hrs./ per week.

Location: Hybrid. Requires some travel to the office in Philadelphia, PA.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Instruct 35-40 teen girls in the designated Evoluer House Personal and Professional Development Program curriculum that will result in students achieving true personal development success in accordance with Evoluer House policies.

• Create a welcoming, joyful, safe, caring, and inclusive online workshop environment for all. • Effectively create and maintain culturally relevant, gender-responsive and trauma-informed classroom environment for a diverse group of teen girls.

• Compassionately meet the developmentally appropriate needs of all 13–18-year-old teen girls to ensure that all students are engaged and actively learning course material. (Working with students one-on-one when they need extra help or attention)

• Understand, respond to, and support all children’s individual identities, strengths, needs and differences.

• Tracking and evaluating student academic progress

• Develop quality, creative lesson plans that involve visual and hands-on/minds-on learning. • Prepare and submit weekly lesson plans to the Program Director; Work directly with Program Coordinator to ensure all standards of operations are met.

• Rehearse student Commencement Ceremony speakers

• Maintain and submit all paperwork in a timely fashion (student progress and attendance records, and incident/injury reports). Read, review, and follow guidelines outlined in the Instructor/Parent Handbook.

• Other duties and tasks may be assigned as required. Supervisors can modify, change, or add to the duties of this description at any time without notice.

Preferred Education:

• Undergraduate degree and/or master’s degree in related field.

Experience, Essential Skills & Abilities:

• Previous experience teaching personal and workforce development or a related subject. • Demonstrated experience and maturity in managing and engaging a classroom of thirty-five to forty, 13–18-year-olds; proven ability to command a room of students.

• Proven effectiveness in guiding classroom activity, keeping all discussion on task and thinking quickly/creatively in the face of unexpected questions or comments.

• Excellent time management and organizational skills.

• Exceptional communication skills.

• Have a high investment towards effecting a positive change within girls and young women’s lives and a congruency with the Evoluer House mission.

• Demonstrate a positive and flexible attitude towards co-workers, children, parents, and visitors. • Must be able to commit to a full nine-week summer program schedule and attend weekly staff meetings.

• Must be able to commit to teacher training workshops prior to the program's start date. • Must pass and maintain all required background checks.
