POSITION TITLE: Accounting Specialist, Finance

STATUS: Full time / Exempt

LOCATION: Chicago, Illinois (Hybrid: 1 days/week on-site, 4 days/week remote)

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an Accounting Specialist to join our Finance team. The ideal candidate will bring value to the team by providing accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR) and other accounting support to the Finance team.

Reporting to the Senior Accounting Manager, the Accounting Specialist will primarily be responsible for AP processing but will also be involved in other financial duties, including daily bookkeeping, financial reporting and the preparation of tax records for 1099 requirements and financial audits.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Processes AP invoices and expense statement reimbursements.
  • Reviews Mastercard PaymentNet expense transactions for accuracy and records entries.
  • Makes recommendations of approval for questionable charges, while following NCSBN’s travel policies and 1099 requirements.
  • Handles W-9/W-8 form and ACH form maintenance.
  • Assists with all cash receipts for data entry into the accounting system and controls the bank deposit function.
  • Assists with general ledger maintenance and processes journal and accounts payable entries.
  • Provides support in the monthly bank reconciliation and administers petty cash transactions.
  • Prepares special and recurring accounting reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least two years of work experience in accounting functions and a general understanding of accounting principles required.
  • Two years university, community college, business school, or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong organizational, critical thinking and time management skills.
  • Experience with Accounting Software required.
  • Experience with MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat required.
  • MS Excel: Knowledge of pivot tables and filtering data.
  • MS Word: Knowledge of merging documents and using templates.
