Summary of Position:

The Orthodontic Assistant plays a pivotal role at LOA Orthodontics and is the primary support to our doctors and clinical team in executing clinical care, including patient education, documentation, radiography, and infection control. This role will assist with various activities in working with the doctors and patients alike and will strive to be a positive, friendly, and professional addition to the team.

Essential Job Function:

  • Establish a trusting rapport with patients, ensuring the highest level of patient customer service is given to all patients
  • Educate the patients on orthodontic care and treatment practices
  • Work chairside with patient care, including placing, adjusting, and removing orthodontic appliances
  • Place, adjust, and execute treatment plans involving braces, Invisalign, retainers, and various orthodontic appliances
  • Taking X-rays, photographs, and digital intraoral scans
  • Maintain patients' charts and transcribe the doctor and clinical notes accurately
  • Place, adjust, and execute treatment plans involving braces, Invisalign, retainers, and various orthodontic appliances
  • Keep patient operatories stocked and organized, as well as clean, sterilize, and prepare the equipment
  • Place, adjust, and execute treatment plans involving braces, Invisalign, retainers, and various orthodontic appliances
  • Be receptive to coaching and training from doctors and supervisors to better develop skillsets
  • Other duties as required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Orthodontics and associated treatment appliances and equipment used
  • Action-oriented and taking initiative, being adaptive and flexible in a changing environment
  • Understands and can effectively communicate techniques utilized in the Orthodontic field
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Strong computer skills and the ability to learn new programs and technology quickly is imperative

Education and Experience:

  • High-School Diploma Required
  • 1-3 Years Relative Dental or Healthcare Experience Preferred
  • DANB Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) Certification Preferred

Experience working in orthodontics or dentistry is optional for the right candidate. Work ethic, ability to problem-solve, curiosity, and the willingness and motivation to learn skills quickly and help innovate the position in the future are of the highest value to our organization. Bilingual abilities are a plus!

Position and Hours:

  • Full-time candidates must be able to fulfill any possible days, hours, or shifts associated with the position.
  • Clinical shifts typically require arriving at least 30 minutes early for preparation before the patient day and staying 30 minutes after for clean-up and administrative tasks.
