Job purpose

The Test Engineer is responsible for conformance, safety, performance of firearm product. Plans, performs, and supervises tests and experiments, maintains records, analyzes data, and other duties as directed.

Duties and responsibilities

Write test plans based on product specifications, industry and Government standards and regulations, and customer expectations.

Plan the execution of tests including provision of equipment and material and allocation of personnel.

Supervise testing, ensuring the safety of all involved and documenting results and observations.

Make recommendations on product improvements.

Document tests and maintain a data base and library of results and reports.

Design test fixtures and equipment.

Specify and source specialty equipment and instrumentation.

Maintain test hardware.

Develop and document standard practices for test and evaluation.

Be the company subject matter expert on industry, military, and other government requirements, standards and specifications, and regulations concerning firearm performance and test methodology.

Provide input on product specifications and designs.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field, mechanical or electrical engineering preferred, or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of the position.

Ability to lead ad hoc work teams and to resolve conflicts.

Knowledge of firearms safe handling.

Understanding of Design of Experiments, basic probability and statistics, problem solving tools.

Understanding of high-speed videography, motion analysis, instrumentation and data collection for temperature, pressure, and acceleration.

Ability to analyze data.

An ability to work independently and a desire to learn and improve.

Working conditions

Office environment within a manufacturing facility.

Physical requirements

  • Physically able to perform firing tests and to move products, test equipment, and ammunition.
  • Willing to work under adverse conditions of temperature, weather, exposure to noise, sun, smoke, and dust.
  • Must be able to move, lift, transport items at minimum of 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to consistently operate a computer/office productivity machinery i.e., calculator, copy machine, printer for a minimum of 6 hours per day.
  • Must be able to remain stationary for a minimum of 2 hours per day.
  • Must be able to detect and correct errors on paper/screens.
  • Must be able to communicate and exchange information with other members of the organization verbally, nonverbally, and in writing.
  • Must be able to move throughout the facility and office area to access file cabinets, office equipment, plant machinery, and other office areas as needed.
