Herrick Company, Inc. (HCI) is seeking an ambitious and talented Senior Project Manager for water and wastewater treatment plant projects. As an experienced and well-respected contracting firm in the water industry, we're seeking a strong Senior Project Manager who wishes to be integrally involved in the growth of the company within Kentucky and the surrounding area. The Senior Project Manager will supervise, develop, and guide multiple Project Managers to ensure conformance with project requirements and budgetary constraints for multiple projects (both large and small). Additionally, the Senior Project Manager may be assigned special projects to manage directly with the assistance of the project management team. The Senior Project Manager will work directly with the company's ownership and executive leadership in the bidding/procurement, management, and execution of water/wastewater treatment projects including maintenance/repair, expansion, and renovation projects. The Senior Project Manager should have a strong working knowledge of the bid, build, and administrative requirements of hard-bid water infrastructure projects as well as the means and methods of self-perform, heavy civil construction scopes of work including, but not limited to, sitework, excavations, piping installations, cast-in-place concrete, and treatment plant process equipment installations.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities – Bidding/Procurement

  • Assist in preparing Bids, Estimates, and Solicitations to Applicable Subs/Vendors.
  • Knowledge of Estimating a plus.
  • Review/Analyze Scopes and Proposals for Accuracy.
  • Prepare Bid Questions & Submit to the Engineer.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, perform pre-bid site visits, and take photos for estimating purposes.

Key Responsibilities – Construction/Management

  • Act as senior level point of contact for project related matters. Communicate regularly with HCI senior management, PMs, and Superintendents and Project’s Engineers and Owners, etc.
  • Understand Original Bid Estimate, Budgets, and Original Take-off Means & Methods
  • Prepare project initialization priorities and ensure proper execution to ensure materials arrive as required to meet construction activity requirements.
  • Analyze quotes from Bid Day & assist in prioritizing the issuance of POs & SCs while ensuring costs are within budget.
  • Assist with preparation of and negotiation of POs & SCs – Pricing, Terms and Conditions, Scopes, etc.
  • Identify potential savings opportunities for a project and communicate to team.
  • Identify potential cost and safety concerns for a project and communicate to team.
  • Prepare, monitor, update, and expedite the project schedule and communicate to team. Assist PMs in learning/understanding the preparation of project schedules and schedule updates.
  • Assist in leading project meetings – both in-house and progress meetings
  • Monitor project safety & perform site safety checks. · Develop & implement work plans with Project Managers and Superintendents.
    • Review expected results & specified requirements with Superintendents and PMs.
  • Review weekly field time for accuracy and cost coding to proper budgets.
  • Assist PM in coordinating Subcontractors & Vendors – material deliveries, start-ups, start dates, etc. as they relate to the project schedule.
  • Supervise and assist in the review submittals and shop drawings for constructability, conformance to Plans/Specs/PO/SC.
  • Prepare & submit monthly Pay Estimates to Owner.
  • Price, prepare, and negotiate change orders with the Engineer & Owner.
  • Perform quality control of field installations ensuring they follow Industry Standards / Plans & Specs.
  • Monitor/analyze project budgets and review labor productivity regularly with Superintendent and PMs.
  • Monitor costs, project future costs, and perform gross margin analysis.
  • Coordinate construction equipment needs: In-house, rentals, etc.
  • Supervise and assist in the issuance of RFIs, Change Orders, and other project letters/correspondence.
  • Assist in the development and management of Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Interns.
  • Ensure HCI and its personnel and interests are protected as it relates to liabilities on a project: personnel safety, costs, scope changes, damages, issues, etc.
  • Study plans and specifications to assist in organizing, prioritizing, and executing construction based on project budgets, completion timeframes, and staffing requirements for each phase of construction.
  • Assure a safe work site, safe work practices, and is well versed in OSHA requirements as they relate to both General Industry and Construction.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to maintain the overall schedule of active projects, equipment allocations, personnel availability, and budgetary constraints.
  • Maintains the highest level of technical construction expertise through continuing education.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Key

Requirements:

  • 5+ years heavy civil and/or water/wastewater treatment plant project management experience.
  • Maintains and fosters Engineer/Owner relationships.
  • Possesses a strong knowledge of construction means and methods and subcontractor management.
  • Strong communication skills – both verbal and written.
  • This position requires frequent walking of the project site to perform work reviews and inspections. This will include, but is not limited to, traversing rough terrain, climbing ladders/scaffolds, climbing, or moving in and out of narrow openings, climbing stairs, descending sloped banks, and moderate lifting.
  • Must exercise extensive independent judgment to ensure a safe and efficiently executed construction project.
  • Willing to work in a team-oriented atmosphere, while being heavily relied upon to assist in and perform complex decision making.
  • Must exercise leadership and organization, analytical, oral, and written skills, be results and schedule-driven and operate under periods of stress.
  • Willing to learn new approaches and software while also willing to coach and teach the next generation of construction leaders.
  • Capable of efficient use of a computer and standard Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) as well as additional software that may be necessary for management.
  • Willingness to travel periodically for out-of-town meetings, site visits, etc., as projects require. Travel compensation will be provided.
