Job Description

Fresh Start Pallet Products is looking to hire a Lead Shop Woodworker for a full-time position in our Hartford, CT location. The position is available immediately.

Lead Shop Woodworker- Want to work for a small community organization that focuses on teaching new skill and removing barriers for employment. Fresh Start is a nonprofit with almost 10 years of experience working with customers in the Hartford Area building custom indoor and outdoor furniture. We are looking for a candidate who is interested in sharing their skills with our staff while building customer projects.

This position is for an employee highly proficient in finish carpentry, fine woodworking and cabinetry skills. The position is approximately 36-40 hours a week with the opportunity for overtime. You will be responsible for building and installing high quality products while maintaining a professional and safe work environment. Though we value general construction experience, this role is mainly fine woodworking.

Essential Job Functions:

-Proficient in reading blueprints, schematics, and construction documents -Oversee and manage all aspects of shop projects from start to finish
-Monitor project progress and quality control to ensure work meets specifications
-Collaborate with project managers, employees, and clients to ensure project success
-Train and mentor carpentry team members -Experience with working/training people from other cultures that speak different languages -Ability to work with customers on installations of projects at homes or businesses -Proficient in cabinetry -Proficient in finish application

Education & Experience:

-Proven experience as a leader in a similar role with inside shop experience
-Strong knowledge of carpentry techniques, tools, and materials (wood working) -Leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage projects
-Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail

Our History: We began our social enterprise in the back yard of Grace Lutheran Church in Hartford in 2015, building benches out of discarded wooden pallets found nearby. This seating was needed, as guests at the church’s weekly open dinner were being arrested for loitering because there was no place to sit and chat outside. A church member who was a retired carpenter supervised the building process and a small work force grew rapidly into a nonprofit, as a number local organizations and individuals asked us to build them various products.
