Job Description

Summary

Under the supervision and direction of the Early Learning Program Director, the Early Childhood Education Coordinator promotes the overall growth and development of the children in the program by providing oversight, development and supervision of a quality education program and curriculum standards for preschool children, ages 2.9 to 5. Staff is supported provided thru a variety of methods including technical assistance, coaching, evaluation, supervision, reflection and training. Oversee the planning and delivery of an early learning curriculum and environments, which a) enhance children’s cognitive, social and emotional development and b) promote children’s growth in language, literacy, mathematics, science, creative arts, physical development, and approaches to learning.



Coaching

·Facilitates peer-to-peer learning both one-on-one or group settings in joint process of capacity-building strategies.

·Provides skill development to staff progressing in their position by performing on-the-job technical assistance and modeling of specific skills.

·Provide guidance to staff in building skills and competence

·Facilitating the development, implementation, and coordination of internal support plans (action plans, behavior plans) with parents, teachers, and supervisors

·Implementation and evaluation of skills and strategies

·Providing ongoing quality assistance to address children’s challenging behaviors and sensory needs.

·Supports the professional development of all staff by delivering coaching and technical assistance

·Coach teaching staff in developmentally appropriate practices

·Support teaching staff to follow a consistent schedule, which includes small and large group experiences, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor activities, skill development, meals and effective transitions between activities.

Evaluation and Assessment

·Participates in site visits, classroom observations, and work groups to assess program needs and planning strategies for system/process improvement and/or development of early childhood education, disabilities, and mental health.

·Collaborate with teachers to provide team support regarding on-going assessment using the CT DOTS

·Providing guidance and support to staff with implementation of curriculum/individualization plans and ongoing assessments

·Develop and implement training for teaching staff

Communication and Partnership

·Communicates effectively to build trust

·Establish communication practices/procedures across all sites to ensure educational needs are addressed

·Works cooperatively with other agencies to meet the needs of families and children served:

·Coordinate child referrals regarding special education

·Communicate regularly with direct service staff and consultants

·Participate in meetings as requested


Child Development and Disabilities Services

·Assess individual and group needs, attending to special needs, specific interest, strengths and concerns.

·Adapt curriculum to address and meet individual goals for children as identified in their individualized education plans.



Duties

Ensure all children are receiving enriching developmentally appropriate educational programming through coaching, supporting and supervising classroom teachers in providing a high quality developmentally appropriate curriculum using CT Early Learning and Development Standards

Weekly review of lesson plans.Provide feedback and observe planned experiences for children.

Work with teaching staff to support the needs of all children by individualizing lesson plans

Articulate and remain current of best practices in professional development, early childhood education, adult learning.

Ensure program compliance with NAEYC curriculum standards.

Establish communication practices/procedures across all sites to ensure educational needs are consistently addressed.

Develops and disseminates resources and best practices for the process of implementing quality improvement efforts.

Promotes continuous quality improvement and quality assurance efforts for the program.

Requirements

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, Child Development or related field; Masters Preferred

Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in a preschool classroom

Minimum of 3 years’ experience coaching/mentoring preschool teachers

Working knowledge of the Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards

Knowledge and experience in working with early childhood mental health and disabilities services
Intermediate to advanced computer skills, internet and e-mail

Ability to utilize program resources and technology to appropriately answer questions and provides guidance to staff and parents

Ability to train and provide presentations to small groups.

Ability to collaborate with and have working knowledge of local community resources related to disability services.

Ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively and appropriately with others.

Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Sustained concentration and attention to detail and accuracy

Ability to prioritize and manage workload and deadlines.

Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
Ability to meet the needs of all children specifically those.

Benefits

Full time non-union position, 40 hours weekly. Finger printing, physical and TB test required upon employment.
