Job Summary:

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) supports the care of patients under the supervision of registered nurses, providing essential patient care and assistance throughout various hospital departments. The PCT performs a range of clinical and administrative duties, ensuring patient comfort and safety while maintaining a clean and organized care environment. This position requires effective communication and collaboration with medical center personnel, patients, and visitors.

Essential Job Functions:

• Patient Reception: Welcome patients, verify proper identification bracelets, and prepare them for assessment, admission, physical examination, and procedures.
• Blood Draw and EKGs: Perform intravenous or capillary blood draws and EKGs as directed, using proper aseptic collection techniques and ensuring appropriate labeling and processing of specimens.
• Equipment Management: Ensure the presence, functionality, and cleanliness of all necessary equipment, including restocking supplies as directed.
• Patient Transport: Assist in transporting patients to departments or units as requested.
• Patient Preparation: Prepare patients for meals and feed them as needed, and prepare the room environment for admission.
• Hygiene and Comfort Care: Provide direct hygiene and comfort care to patients, including bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, incontinent care, and bed-making.
• Vital Signs and Specimen Collection: Take and document vital signs on admission under the RN's direction, perform and document glucose finger sticks, and collect other specimens as directed.
• Patient Monitoring: Obtain and document daily patient weights, observe and document patient intake and output, and promptly answer call lights.
• Communication and Reporting: Notify the RN immediately of any changes in the patient's condition and communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers according to their needs and levels of understanding.
• Patient-Centered Care: Identify the needs of the patient population served and modify and deliver care specific to those needs (e.g., age, culture, language, sensory impairments).
• Safety and Collaboration: Ensure a safe patient environment by actively participating in a team-oriented approach to patient care.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• At least one (1) year of experience as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in a hospital setting is strongly preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
